George W. Bush Sewage Plant proposed in SF
Source: HuffPo

"Looking to honor the forty-third President of the United States of America, George W. Bush, the recently formed Presidential Memorial Commission of San Francisco is looking to change the name of the Oceanside Wastewater Treatment Facility. It seems the group would like to rename the SF Zoo adjacent facility to the 'George W Bush Sewage Plant,' SFist reports.

The grassroots movement is "proposing an ordinance initiative for the November 2008 San Francisco ballot"

Although, I can't think of a person more deserving of having a Sewage Treatment Facility named after him.

169. Agreed. The engineers who design and operate these facilities are doing a great service.
To denigrate their work by making a joke if it is not right.

I'd suggest instead a George Bush memorial toilet at Civic Center Plaza.

Or a monument to an empty cowboy hat.

189. Good point
It just seems that Mr. Bush has a great deal in common with sewage. However, I now agree, I don't want to lessen the respect these engineers deserve. The memorial toilet is fitting. Not as funny, but fitting.

6. And also take down Ronald Reagan Highways!
Tell the council who put them up to put up public toilet facilities and call them Ronald Reagan Shithouse - it's more appropriate than a highway.

(Btw, MY Ronald Reagan Highway is in POOR condition (I-25 from El Paso County to Pueblo County in Colorado) and they also need to tear down FotF signs as well)

156. It was Grover Norquist behind that.
I listen to aviation frequencies on my scanner, and it is **always** referred to as National Airport by air traffic control workers.

Our beloved ex-guv George Macaca Allen also thought that was a keen idea.

176. WHERE IS GROVER WHEN YOU NEED HIM?
I have to go to Fla. because my Mother is having surgery. ( unexpected trip)
I called the drug store to renew my thyroid replacement & blood pressure pills.
Next day when I picked them up; I COULDN'T have the BP, it was TOO SOON and I had too many pills left!
My need for the blood pressure pills began just about 7 1/2 years ago! Fancy that! My Mother was 10 years older than I before she had to take them!
Hooray for all those welfare Mothers with all those babies, being so well taken care of by our small Govt.!
Vote Dem. so our old ladies can get their meds when they need them! ( will my blood pressure go down?)

177. Amen!
I'm from Arlington, and I call it National (like most locals). Currently I take care of airline tickets for military members, and when briefing them I call it Washington National.

I can't wait until either Clinton or Obama get elected; I see the following changes:
- dumping raygun's name from that airport
- a thorough investigation into enron, and the CA utility disaster
- going after crash-cart cheney for having stock/shares/whatever in halliburton while in office
- establishing a sweetheart deal for those affected by 9/11
-- similiar to the sweetheart deal that shrub gave the airline industry
- allowing access to the oil reserves (which should lower the price of gas at least $1 a gallon)
- bringing our military men and women home from the war for oil
- a full onslaught to get bin laden
- putting an end to the financial orgy that big oil is getting
- ending the tax cuts for the super-wealthy that shrub claims is so important
- most importantly, returning honor and dignity to the White House!

191. "We never call it 'Reagan.' "
No one who grew up here calls it Raygun, save for the TV anchorpeople, who no doubt have their orders.

I've felt for some time that if, for some reason, it should be renamed for someone more contemporary than George Washington, that person should be George Marshall. At least Marshall lived in Virginia.

I'm in Alexandria.

And think of all the good sewage plants do, being part of a modern infrastructure, paid for by taxpayers' dollars, GW doesn't deserve such an honor.

On the other hand, maybe we should organize a flush-in on January 20, 2009, to celebrate this administration going down........

30. Maybe they should change the name of SMU
The board of trustees of SMU apparently intends to proceed with the Bush Library regardless of how the Methodist Church feels - perhaps someone should change the name of SMU to something more befitting a university that would honor someone whom history will dishonor by noting him as one of the most despicable world leaders in the history of civilization along with his father whose policies as CIA director, vice-president and then president allowed for the path his son chose to take us down as a nation.

While the Republicans wave their flags, the world calls out for another Nuremberg and justice - with or without another Nuremberg, we will carry the shame just as the Germans did. Even those of us who were not good Germans.

39. If this sewer plant operates....
....at the same level of efficiency as its namesake, then everyone connected to this sewer system will experience a "surge" followed by a total backup of their drain systems. On a regular basis.

That is until the whole system totally collapses. And then everyone will be standing knee-deep in shit which will be deemed "great strides and progress" by the sewer plant. However, impeachment of the plant manager will still be deemed "off the table....."

K&R!!!

But wouldn't it be beautiful to see this in the newspapers:

"Former president George W. Bush raises a toast with recycled water from the sewerage treatment plant that bears his name he claimed was fit for humans to drink. Doctors say that the former leader will recover from an intense bout of gastroenteritis that came about after Bush's attendance at the plant's inauguration within the week."

a wastewater treatment plant is an honorable and needed profession. To name such a facility after Bush is an insult to sewage workers everywhere.

A more appropriate use of Bush's name is to attach it to an email spammer or a pink-sheets stock pump-'n-dump operation. Perhaps change the name of the so-called "Maggot Mile" in Boca Raton to "Bush Mile"

How about the George W Bush No-tell Motel? George W Bush Fine Used Cars (No Money Down)?

On the other hand, isn't there a pissior in Paris named after him?

http://www.indybay.org/newsitems/2005/03/21/17287171.php

Police in Germany are hunting pranksters who have been sticking
miniature flag portraits of US President George W. Bush into piles of
dog poo in public parks. Josef Oettl, parks administrator for Bayreuth,
said: "This has been going on for about a year now, and there must be
2,000 to 3,000 piles of excrement that have been claimed during that
time."

The series of incidents was originally thought to be some sort of
protest against the US-led invasion ofIraq. And then when it continued
it was thought to be a protest against President George W. Bush's
campaign for re-election. But it is still going on and the police say
they are completely baffled as to who is to blame. "We have sent out
extra patrols to try to catch whoever is doing this in the act," said
police spokesman Reiner Kuechler. "But frankly, we don't know what we
would do if we caught them red handed." Legal experts say there is no
law against using feces as a flag stand and the federal legal experts
say there is no law against using feces as a flag stand and the federal
constitution is vague on the issue.

For now, he is the Seat of the Government.

But maybe we should hire him to be the new Tidy-Bowl Man after he evacuates as pResident.

It's the kind of relaxative position he needs.

That could eliminate one soft position at the new Bush Library.

A new job for the White House Plumbers.

Maybe they can create a stool for Constipated Rice.

I hope nobody creates a blockage to s-crap this proposal.

123. We need a different tactic
As others have pointed out, sewage treatment plants actually benefit the community, despite their unsavory activities.

It would be better if we turned "Bush" into a dirty or unsavory word. Some suggestions:

Shit = "Man, I really have to take a Bush."
Hurl = "Aw, that asshole Henry got drunk and Bushed all over the back seat of my car."
Idiot = "How was my blind date? The guy turned out to be a total Bush."
Screwed = "Jeez, that used car dealer really Bushed me."
FUBAR = "Aw, this thing is so Bushed up now, we'll never fix it."

Excellent idea. The George W. Bush administration is the most corrupt, arrogant, and lawless administration in living memory. I think that renaming the sewage plant is an excellent memorial.

Of course if San Franciscans rename the plant, the right wingie-dingies will howl. But they'll bay and howl anyway. Since they'll howl anyway, I hope you'll give them a real reason to howl.

Greetings all from the City by the Bay!

A word to you from one of the founding members of the Presidential Memorial Commission of San Francisco: a few of my buddies have been talking over the past month or so about how to duly honor a president who has inflicted so much shit on our great nation (as well as the world at large) in such a short time frame(Iraq, Katrina, torture, etc) so we arrived at this.

We are a group of patriotic citizens who are using our first amendment rights to make our voices heard, since Madame Speaker, our congressional representative representing this great city, has concluded that impeachment is "off the table." What's left then is to take matters in our own hands and engage in some good-humored political mockery.

While the timing of the site launch was somewhat unfortunate due it being right around April Fools, the members of the SF Presidential Commission would like to underscore that this is indeed real.

Beginning sometime in the next couple of weeks we will kick off our signature gathering drive. By our estimations based on consultations with the City's elections department, upwards of around 7500 signatures are required to qualify the proposed initiative ordinance for the ballot. No easy task, but certainly doable.

Setting all humor aside, we'd like to ask for your support. Please go to www.presidentialmemorial.org and click on the "join the grassroots movement" link for more information on how you can help be a part of history. (There's also some nifty promotional goodies for sale through a link to Cafe Press, with the proceeds offsetting the costs associated with this effort.)

In solidarity,

146. Hey good Luck tangierrumours
Have you been to 450 Golden Gate on Thursdays at noon by any chance? I would love to see someone post some pictures from tommorow here and get a little more fund raising going for Shirley Golub.

Let's Show Pelosi Herself A New Direction, Out The Door, And Make Impeachment Actually Happen Inbox
The Pen <democracy@peaceteam.net> to me
show details 12:41 pm (4 hours ago)

Are you as tired of hearing that meaningless "New Direction" slogan
as we are, where all it's been is the same old caving in. Until just
a couple weeks ago we could have sworn we had traded a rubber stamp
Congress for a rubber spine one, and even there they could cave again
on telecom immunity any day without our incessant pressure. And
what's made just a little difference was the huge primary challenge
win in MD by Donna Edwards. If we do the same thing in San Francisco
on June 3rd, as Shirley Golub is doing, impeachment is on, for real.

We can show Nancy Pelosi herself a "New Direction" . . . OUT the
door, by doing all we can to support Shirley Golub now.

Donations for Shirley Golub Mailings:
http://www.shirley08.com/donations_mailing.php

There are lots of other things we could be doing to work for real
progressive policy change, but nothing would have MORE impact than
demonstrating that the Speaker of the House herself can be seriously
challenged for not doing her job.

We are doing conventional things and non-conventional things. The
most important conventional things we need to do right now are
mailings, to get to as many people as possible with the Shirley
Golub's "I'm On The Table" message. And she really is, on all the
issues we are fighting for, ending the horrid indefensible occupation
of Iraq, instituting real national health care for all our citizens,
ending NAFTA and rebalancing our trade policy to protect American
jobs, and most urgently impeaching the president and vice president
before they can do any more damage.

We can do lots of email for practically nothing. But not everybody
has email and we certainly don't have the email addresses for every
voter in San Francisco, which is where the critical battleground is
right now. Thanks to your valiant help, Shirley is running multiple
ads daily on MSNBC in her district, the Air America radio affiliate,
and last weekend placed a prominent display ad in the San Franciso
Chronicle. But we still need to do traditional mailings to win.

It's going to take about $30,000 to get this mailing out over the
next week or so. But if each of our participants just kicked in a
dollar we would raise far more than that. So anything you can do to
help will make a real difference, knowing that we have candidate who
is not afraid to put it on the line and proclaim her stands, where
the incumbent, Pelosi, just mouths worn out and worthless slogans.

Donations for Shirley Golub Mailings:
http://www.shirley08.com/donations_mailing.php

If you can donate $100 to help show Nancy Pelosi the door and what
direction it's in, Shirley will send you one of the new "IMPEACH
BOTH!!!" baseball caps, so you can proudly proclaim your position on
what Congress should have done long ago. And if you can be an angel
and donate $1000 to get this mailing off the ground, you get a custom
embroidered "I'm On The Table" baseball style satin award jacket.

At the same time, just based on our last alert, we have been hearing
from people from all other the country excited about the theatrical
impeachment passion play that Shirley is helping to make happen.
Think of it like "An Inconvenient Truth". Think of the dramatic
impact that movie has made on worldwide policy thinking, inspiring
and mobilizing people to take action where before they were
dreadfully uninformed.

Here we have a play cowritten by Bruce Fein, one of the premier
impeachment scholars, together with some gifted dramatists. And if
you have ever heard Mr. Fein speak at forum on the urgency of
impeachment, you know that everyone needs to hear what he has to say
about the mortal threat to our democracy posed by NOT acting to
impeach this president and vice president now. Few people have had
that opportunity, and you can't get most people to sit still for a
lecture. But with this play we can have Mr. Fein as a character
educating and inspiring people to speak out every night, while we
pick apart all the specious White House excuses for their
Constitutional offenses witness by witness, in the most dramatic way
possible.

It get's better than that. Every person who will attend this play in
San Francisco we can recruit on the spot to volunteer for the
campaign, they can take home house signs with them, and every dollar
we spend advertising the play will double as campaign advertising.
The synergistic possibilities are breathtaking, not to mention the
media attention phenomenon we can create by making the production the
hit we know it will be. Unconventionial? Yes. But it could amazing
and we have to go for it. We already have a top notch director in
place, so if you would like to make a donation to help mount this
production, please use this link.

Donations For Impeachment Play:
http://www.shirley08.com/donations_play.php

And especially if you are in another city and want to work on your
own productions, to make this inspiring impeachment play the national
media phenomenon it is destined to be, please email us too because we
will be releasing the final locked script to all comers this week.

We beat back a corporate financed challenge to Dennis Kucinich for
his own congressional seat with your help, against all odds. Now we
can win a primary challenge in San Francisco, and in doing so change
the course of American political history forever.

Paid for by Shirley Golub for Congress

Please take action NOW, so we can win all victories that are supposed
to be ours, and forward this alert as widely as possible.

If you would like to get alerts like these, you can do so at

I mean on disrespect to the many who have died or suffered because of this disgraceful impostor. I don't think he will ever pay for his evil in any formal way.
(Nancy Pelosi has demonstrated this.)

This poetic tribute would be a beautiful thing - one that you will never see in his library.

In dictionaries of the future, under the entry for the word "bush" you will find the definition: excrement, sewage, waste, shit, such as "Johnny wipe your feet when you come inside, you accidentally stepped in some of Fido's bush".

This is the kind of stuff I like seeing on DU. Instead of bickering about Hillary and Barack, we should remember that Bush and his cabal are still capable of inflicting damage on this nation and the world. What a fitting tribute to the turd-in-chief.

I've never been to San Francisco (or California), but I've always wanted to go, and the building and dedicating of the Bush Sewage Treatment Plant might expedite my plans of visiting.

, San Francisco!
