Siegelman prepping for House committee testimony

Updated: April 8, 2008 10:45 PM EST

Former Alabama Governor Don Siegelman is preparing for a trip to Washington, D.C. while he's also getting used to life outside a jail cell. A week and a half ago, Siegelman was released from federal prison in Louisiana. Next month, the former governor will travel to Washington to testify before the House Judiciary Committee.

It's a trip Siegelman's lawyer is in favor of, as long as it doesn't jeopardize his appeal.

"There's great danger in Governor Siegelman being asked about his case. and as his lawyer I'm dead against that," Kilborn said. Reporter: "You're against him testifying?" "No, only about his case...about the facts of his case," Kilborn said.

Siegelman has publicly alleged that Republican strategist Karl Rove was involved in his prosecution. Rove says he's going before the House Judiciary Committee to defend himself.

2. Under OATH, karl.
Let's see your propensity for lying stand up under OATH. 'Cause you know Siegelman will go under oath without hesitation.

3. Can someone explain to me
how testifying at the hearing would hurt his case?

I received two letters from Governor Don and rove's name was all over them. I fully understand why Don wants to testify, but not why he shouldn't.

9. Not a lawyer, but I would presume that *his* lawyer
is concerned about any questions being asked in the hearing that might also be asked by the court of appeals.

That's just a guess, mind you, but a reasonable one, I'd think.

8. Thanks for posting the links
I think I now have a much better understanding of the case than I did before. I have always felt that Rove is a dangerous zealot - but I believe I have underestimated just how dangerous. How deep does it really go? How strong is his influence... not just in this case, but in the great blunders of the last eight years?

I have heard it said that Rove is a man religiously motivated, that he is a great part of the force driving such things as the Christian coalition. I have heard far less (and far more) flattering things said about him as well.

I think we all know someone has been pulling strings for the last eight year - for all the puppets in the white house, congress, and so on... there must be a puppet master. Or a select group of them, but how high up is Rove, really? How much more is he responsible for? Just as importantly... who the hell is he? What brought him to his place of power and influence? Anyone out there willing to educate the young and uninformed? It would be much appreciated.
