AP poll: Bush public approval at new low
Source: RawStory.com / AP

Public approval of President Bush has reached a new low in the Associated Press-Ipsos poll, driven by dissatisfaction with his handling of the economy.

A survey released Thursday showed just 28 percent approve of the overall job he is doing. His previous record low in the poll was 30 percent last month.

In another record low, only 27 percent are happy with his job on the economy, which threatens to enter a recession.

The AP-Ipsos poll was taken from April 7-9 and involved telephone interviews with 1,005 adults. The margin of sampling error is plus or minus 3.1 percentage points.

who say they would not vote for an African-American or a woman. It all boils down to the "core" of the Republican party. IMHO.

We know living next to the 27 percenters is plenty of reason to off yourself, but you've made it over seven years, try and hold on till next January 20th if you can. If not, we DU'ers understand, it's been nice knowing you, and good luck. :grouphug:

They being the American public in general.

14. Because they're diehard RWers who can't admit they made a mistake
60 percent of Republicans approved of his overall job, his weakest showing yet with members of his own party. Just 7 percent of Democrats and 17 percent of independents approve.

Those 60 percent don't want to admit they voted for the BIGGEST LOSER EVER.

32. One poll had him at 19%.
It must have been an outlier though, as the numbers I am seeing now are in the 25-30% range. If there were some way of polling only thinking people whose opinions are based on something real, his approval would probably be in the 5-10% range, if that. I no longer encounter anyone who can stand him anywhere.

40. Those Numbers Were Based Upon . . .
. . .answering a question that included "strongly approve" as an option. It was Pew Research.

So, that means there must be about 12% who "somewhat approve".

Most of the polls have dropped below 30% in the last month. He is going down in all of them - even Fox is down to about 30%. Several are down to 28%.

25. I call bullshit.
If the other 72% of us knew where to find these intractable losers, we'd have been able to whittle this (totally bogus) number down by at least 1% per month for the past five years with little more than a low-key re-education program - what some of us might dare to call "Teh Facts".

If there are, in fact, still any number of people in this country who support an incompetent, smirking, sociopathic bully, the statistics we've been provided on mental health are also completely out of whack and far too few of us are under treatment.

37. Problem with Polls
1) Bush could care less if .01% of the people approve of him.
He was reported as saying he would stay in Iraq even if his wife and his dog were the only ones
in approval!

2) There will always be people who approve of a loser!! I still know "Christians" who think Bush is a great guy cause "he is one of their own!"

38. I ride to work with one of the 28%'ers occasionally. I think I figured her out.
She was talking about a guy that she thinks is going to turn republican. The reason was this: A man was pretending to paint a building in close proximity of some preteens playing. They suspected him of being a pedophile and ran him off. The one that "may" turn republican said that they should lock the guy up. Because of that they think he is turning republican. The flip side of that is that liberals don't believe in locking up pedophiles which is partly and not partly true. I think we want the locking up to be done after a crime is committed which is the law.

So to get to the point. Some of the 28% are people who have a warped idea of what a liberal is and they don't want to be that so they call them selves republicans. The liberals that they think we are do not exist.

48. So these 28% are idiots? Think about how in this pivotal election year who the real idiots are.
We can see by all the polls that there is a huge dissatisfaction in the country with the way nearly everything. Over 80% of Americans believe we are going in the wrong direction. The president has a 28% approval rating. We are running a massive deficit and the economy is going in the crapper and the housing market is collapsing. Unemployment is on the rise. The price of fuel is going through the roof. We are mired in a hopeless war that is sucking over $10 billion a month from us with no end in sight in spite of the constant claims that things are getting better. The world for the most part does not like or respect us, and with good reason.

In the Great Depression FDR gave Americans the one thing that we cannot live without--hope.
Today in this country we are losing hope--the hope for a future for our nation, that we can be proud of it and confident in its future. We are losing the hope that our lives will be better or that our children's lives will be better than their parents. We have elected leaders who do not inspire us and of whom we are ashamed. We are living lives that have not only become devoid of hope, but we are living lives of fear--not only for our personal well being, but for the future of our country and the planet.

We are on the cusp of what should be a huge and pivotal change in this country which has the opportunity to radically improve our nation. As Democrats we have the opportunity of a lifetime to take control of this government and electorally crush the Republicans to the point where they become very marginalized. It is my hope that in my lifetime I will never see another Republican president or a Republican controlled Congress. But we seem so busy tearing our party apart and wounding each other that we may very well hand the Republicans a victory that they would not otherwise have a chance to get.

Think about it: who in their right minds, other than the hardcore Republicans, would ever vote to continue the mess that the Republicans have lead us down these last seven years?
Think about this and our great opportunity and how we are handling it because if we throw it away we will not only have blood on our hands, our children will curse our childishness. Consider who the true idiots are if we allow this pivotal and future changing victory for our nation slip away.
