Stakes High for Democrats in Philly Debate
Source: ABC

Hillary Clinton and Barack Obama opened Wednesday's presidential debate on a point of accord: neither answering head on whether they'd be willing to name the other as vice president.

Sen. Obama, D-Ill., said it was "premature" to discuss the veepstakes, but promised the party would come together by August, "

Sen. Clinton, D-N.Y., agreed, "Regardless of the differences there may be between us, and there are differences," she said, "they pale in comparison to the differences between us and Sen. McCain."

For the first time since February 26, on stage at Philadelphia's National Constitution Center in a debate moderated by ABC's Charles Gibson and George Stephanopoulos, Clinton said, "I am going to do everyting I possibly can to make sure one of us takes the Oath of Office next January."

1. Well that is very good to hear from Senator Clinton.
I hope she means it.

Dirty politics is hardly ever the truth, but it sure gets the participants dirty.

2. I slept through the debate....and from what I am reading, I'm glad I did.
I can't believe I fell asleep on the bed watching tv, but in honesty, I didn't even know the debate was on tonight, AND I read the blogs all day long. Doh!!

But after reading the blogs and ABC comments, I am glad I did miss the debate. Sounds like the first hour was a total waste of America's time. The commentators had "their fun" trying to stir up gossip on bullshit stories that have been beat to death for the last few weeks, but when it comes to the interests of Americans and the welfare of this country, it sounds like ABC sunk to a tabloid level.

Shame on us.

3. Philly "Stakes"?
Oh those headline writing cards at ABC.

Too fucking clever for their own good.

5. WOW, talk about sour grapes!
It was a wonderful debate and Charlie Gibson and George S. were really good. I guess it's all in your perspective.
