Siegelman speaks: Rove must testify
Source: tuscaloosanews.com

BIRMINGHAM | Former Gov. Don Siegelman said Thursday that he wants former White House adviser Karl Rove to testify before Congress, whether 'he lies under oath, tells the truth or pleads the Fifth.'

Siegelman was freed on bond March 28 after serving nine months in federal prison for bribery and obstruction of justice. He said that while his primary concern is winning his appeal, there are bigger issues involved in his prosecution by the U.S. District Attorney's Office in Montgomery.

'This is not about Don Siegelman, and it's not about the Alabama case,' he said in his first interview with an Alabama newspaper since being released from a federal prison in Oakdale, La. 'This is about America, it is about finding out who hijacked the Department of Justice and used it as a political tool to win elections.'

Siegelman, who had just returned from two days in Washington conferring with U.S. Rep. John Conyers, D-Mich., chair of the House Judiciary Committee, said he is willing to testify before Congress about his case 'or anything else they want me to do.'

3. Rove can deny culpability and say anything he wants to in the press.
But until the little sack of puke has the balls to do it under oath, he's no more believable than anybody else in this disgusting administration who has used every means available to keep from being placed under oath.

10. Nothing
Georgie and his mates will fall back on executive privilege. Nothing happens until after the election, and we can be sure they will work to find some way to impede any serious investigations post-election as well.

21. All the more reason to demand impeachment: no executive privilege in an impeachment.
Edited on Sat Apr-19-08 12:34 PM by Hart2008
Why would the Congress have the right to impeach if the executives actions are privileged?

If Scalia and friends want to hold otherwise, then impeach them too.

5. Same old story
Nothing can happen, even an investigation, until the criminal cartel known as Bush is out of power, and they may be longer than anyone thinks. Remember, they control the media that gives us election polls, and if the polls are close enough the election will be rigged, just ask Kerry, Cleland and Siegelman.
They have subverted our entire system and only millions of us in the streets raising hell can bring about "equal justice under the law." the Supreme Court is a supreme hoax.
The Vietnam war ended because millions of people were in the streets demanding and end.
As long as the arch criminal, American Rasputin/Machiavellian/Goebbels, Karl Rove remains free, elections are at risk. Torture is legal now, for all enemies foreign and domestic, isn't it?

7. I will agree that Seigelman was singled out, but please think about this....
Every State that I know of allows Govenors to select Others who wish to be on different Civil Boards. What the Republicans did was there typical visciousness. Yet, Gov. Seigelman did provide a job on the Board that oversaw Hospitals and Hospital Construction to a campaign contributor. Gov. Seigelman did something that every other Govenor that I know does. I think the various States need to make these positions something the People approve, or the State Legislators need to be involved. We have governmental systems riddled with abuse from the top to the bottom.

I do not have a clear idea how we can make things better. I would like to see the President, and the Govenor of my State, Illinois, possessing less power. I would like greater Representation for other views in our Federal House of Representatives. I would like to see the State level Boards either voted directly by We the People, or selected by the Govenor, then voted on approval by a State's Senate, or their House of Representatives.

An Idea!

8. Now Karl wants to chicken out of testifying
<Shortly after his release, as Siegelman was appearing via satellite connection on an MSNBC talk show, Rove's attorneys released a statement indicating that Rove would be willing to testify before the Judiciary Committee.

But after the release of the report Thursday, which also called on Rove to testify about the Siegelman case and whether he or his staff pressured prosecutors to pursue Siegelman, Rove's lawyer Robert Luskin seemed to equivocate, telling The Associated Press that Rove's appearance before any congressional committee depends on whether Congress and the White House could resolve their differences over executive privilege.

'Sending an invitation to Mr. Rove isn't in any way going to enhance the resolution of those discussions,' Luskin told AP.>

If there is such a thing a justice Mr. Rove is in deep shit for his crimes and has opened
himself up to a law suit that will ruin him. Long story short there was a coup in this
country in 2000 and a "crime family" got power and used the NSA to spy on us and the
Dept. of Justice was the muscle w/ the U.S. Attorney as the "hit men."

'This is about America, it is about finding out who hijacked the Department of Justice and used it as a political tool to win elections.'

And that's why I have no confidence whatsoever in Rove ever opening his lying yap about this. Too much at stake; too many powerful rich white guys with too much to lose.

44. I totally misunderstood....
But that movie, 'Psycho,' and how Janet Leigh was killed in that shower....It was the first violence I saw against women when I was a child. I can still the blood clots running down the bathtub to the drain. I still look out from behind the shower curtain....

I realized that fear was how women were controlled...so when I see Janet Leigh screaming, it reminds me of the violence against women.

I haven't gone to a 'scary' movie since 'Psycho.' Life is scary enough....lol!

I am so disgusted with this primary...I still wonder if the neocons will allow an election. I think they'll try for martial law in October. In the scheme of things, I guess it really doesn't matter who is prez....after all, 'It's the Rothschild/Rockefellers, Stupid!' Those rich white boys are calling the shots...not our supposed 'representatives.' I think we are living in fascism, but it won't matter as oil supplies decline. I just want to get off the grid and be self-sufficient and try to have as comfortable a life as possible. I'm going to plant some vegies this year and see if I can educate my thumb to become Green!

I've  and  for the past 7 1/2 years, too. Sorry for the misunderstanding. I can be a :dunce:

29. I do wonder if he was mistreated by prison officials...
They shuffled him around before taking him to Oakdale -- his family didn't even know that he would end up there. He was taken to was a maximum security facility in Atlanta for three weeks.

Why wasn't Siegelman's destination thought out beforehand, so that his family would know where he would be? Why the shuffling around? This mental torture (& quite possibly, physical torture, as well) is so indicative of how this administration treats its captives. I'm heartbroken at the thought of what Siegelman went through in prison under this administration's directive.

Siegelman said after he left the courtroom he was moved to several federal facilities before settling in at Oakdale, La.

'From Montgomery, I went straight to Atlanta to a maximum security prison, where I was kept for not quite three weeks,' he said. 'Then several of us were taken by plane to New York, then to Michigan and to Oklahoma City, where I stayed for six days.

'I thought I was eventually going to the federal prison in Texarkana, which is where I told my wife I was going,' he said. 'But I ended up in Oakdale. It was almost a month before I got there and I was in prison, all total, nine months to the day.'
