They carried signs, passed out stickers and buttons and gave away hundreds of dollars in coffee and bottled water, sandwiches and doughnuts. They implored, cajoled and quite nearly begged.

Frankly, this wasn't what David L. Reeves expected when he agreed to attend the 5th District Democratic Party caucus Saturday and cast a vote for his friend.

Alvin Sanders uses a whistle to try to drum up support for his daughter, Alvelyn Sanders who wanted to be a delegate.

Snip: More than 900 Democrats turned out to the Teamsters Union Hall in Lakewood for the 5th District caucus, one of 13 similar events in congressional districts across the state.

At stake were a total of 57 delegates' tickets to the party's national convention Aug. 25-28 in Denver. Forty of those elected Saturday will represent U.S. Sen. Barack Obama of Illinois, and 17 will back U.S. Sen. Hillary Clinton of New York.

1. I am the Vice Chair for the 7th District and ours went amazingly smoothly!
We had over 200 people show up for 4 spots and an alternate position. It was amazing for a district that is "represented" by Mr. FairTax himself - asshat John Linder.

Georgia Democrats are fired up and ready to do our part in November!

Thanks for posting about us. A lot of people forget that there are actually Democrats down here :)

2. Good news! Another Georgian here!
And yes, I have to say, I moved here about 2 years ago, and I have met far more Dems than that other thing they say this state is all about. :)

:peace:

3. Do you live in Atlanta?
I live in Douglasville, seems everyone I work with here are repubs. They're mostly decent though and like to pull me into friendly debate. I guess I lucked out there considering some republicans I've met.
