WASHINGTON - FBI Director Robert Mueller on Wednesday recalled warning the Justice Department and the Pentagon that some U.S. interrogation methods used against terrorists might be inappropriate, if not illegal.

Mueller's comments came under pointed questioning by House Democrats demanding to know if the FBI tried to stop interrogations in 2002 that critics define as torture.

Mueller said the FBI does not use coercive techniques when questioning suspects or witnesses, and he reportedly pulled his agents out of CIA or military interrogations several years ago to protect them from legal consequences.

FBI protocol "wouldn't engage in torture," said Rep. Stephen Cohen, D-Tenn. "But if you find out that other agencies may engage in torture, that you believe is illegal — does your protocol include informing those agencies that you believe their actions are illegal?"

"Yes," Mueller answered.

Email for Congressman Wexler. WOW!
Please read the below transcript of my exchange with Mr. Muller.

This is a deeply troubling interchange which should be alarming to all Americans.

3. And who isn't sick & tired of this "critics define as torture" BULLSHIT??!
IT IS TORTURE.

US LAW says it's TORTURE. And ILLEGAL.

International LAW says it's TORTURE. And ILLEGAL.

The Geneva Conventions says it's TORTURE. And ILLEGAL.

The United States Military Field Manual specifically says it's TORTURE. And ILLEGAL.

Let's use reality; ..."SENTIENT HUMAN BEINGS define as torture"...

9. Thank you. That handy little phrase they use to make it sound as if
people are only calling it torture because they disagree with - are a critic of - America. Bush. the "wars", etc..

I'm sick and tired of it.

5. Well now... k*r
This looks like a shot across the bow, but Meuller doesn't do things like that. He's survived and prospered by not doing that.

So what is it? Timing is interesting isn't it. I'd say there's a possibility that there is some
surprise we'll hear about waiting in the wings and Meuller is positioning - we don't do that. I've
seen TV clips of several FBI agents say the same thing when asked, "We don't engage in torture."

But he's added a piece by saying that they inform other agencies that they are when they come across
it. Rep. Cohen, D, TN, deserves a round of applause for asking such an intelligent question. Note
that Meuller had an answer that was clear.

This whole torture business is a complete disgrace. The fact that Powell, Cheney, Rice, Ashcroft,
Tenet, and Rumsfeld "discussed and approved" torture scenarios means they engaged in the same. They
need to be investigated and charged if this claim by ABC News of a few weeks ago is true.
