Associated Press - April 27, 2008 7:03 AM ET

BAGHDAD (AP) - Iraqi police say that U.S. helicopters are engaging Shiite militants in Baghdad's embattled Sadr City district.

They say two people have been killed and 12 injured in clashes between joint Iraqi-American forces and fighters of the Mahdi Army of cleric Muqtada al-Sadr.

An officer who declined to identify himself because he was not authorized to speak to the media said 4 of the injured in the clashes early today were young children.

The sprawling district with over two million inhabitants has seen continuous clashes between Shiite militants and Iraqi and U.S. forces in the past month.

Clashes in Baghdad militia bastion kill 10
5 minutes ago

BAGHDAD (AFP) - Sporadic overnight clashes between Shiite militiamen and US and Iraqi forces in Baghdad's Sadr City killed at least 10 people, including a woman, Iraqi and US officials said on Sunday.

At least 44 people were wounded in the clashes, which began around 6:00 pm (1500 GMT) and continued well after day break.

A local medic said eight people were killed in the night, while the US military said two more militiamen were killed between 8:30 am (0530 GMT) and 10:50 am in separate incidents in Sadr City after they attacked US troops.

The clashes came despite a call by Shiite radical leader Moqtada al-Sadr on Friday for an end to fighting between Iraqi security forces and his Mahdi Army militia, who dominate Sadr City.

1. The never-ending war. If we "win"
we may have to kill off all the "militant" children. And no one seems to be paying attention.

3. When did vast slums become a "bastion".

Are there moats and crenelations around it? Doesn't that sound more accurate: "US helicopters attack vast slum"?

4. Why does this not gladden my heart?

I can imagine what it would be like being part of a family living in an apartment in Sadr City, trying to hold our lives together, and having the Apocalypse play out in the neighborhood as Commander AWOL drives our sons and daughters in uniform on - ever deeper into The Big Sandy.

7. I thought it was yesterday. Oh well, at least you found it. I thought maybe
I was imagining things.

But regardless, how can you square their stated intent of not attacking Sadr City with all the death and destruction coming from the air?

Oh yeah, I forgot. Our entire government is full of liars.

8. Ongoing Sadr City Clashes Causing Misery To Locals
parts of video are poor but what do you expect from folks reporting from inside Sadr city ?

Walls are being built around neighborhoods. Those living inside can spot "outsiders" more easily

Knocking down buildings that formed dangerous blind alley's is also going to displace thousands. At least Iraqi oil revenue is at an all time high surplus.
They don't know what to do with it.
Like paying the mahdi army to form up a CCC isn't going to happen soon
