Bush to address Americans' financial fears (10:30am ET news conference)
Source: CNN

President Bush will address Americans' "understandable anxiety" about their finances Tuesday, the White House said.

The president's news conference will air live on CNN and CNN.com at 10:30 a.m. ET.

Speaking from the Rose Garden, Bush will "call upon Congress to send him sensible and effective bills that will help Americans weather this difficult period and keep our country moving forward," spokeswoman Dana Perino said in a written statement.

Bush will ask Congress to focus on four areas: energy, food prices, mortgage payments and student loans, Perino said.

5. So are we all getting 300 or 600 bucks?
Stimulate the economy by paying down debt, or buying gas / food.

Sensible Bills == Tax Cuts for the wealthiest 1% and Corporations.

After all, his puddin' head is incapable of only one thought at any time.

On edit: If Dear Leader has an brains/ego ratio that was more manageable, he would accept the fact that he is a lame duck, that his maladministration and party were responsible for this mess and that the best thing to do would be to do little but stand back and let the adults handle it.

Lord knows that poor ol' Hank Paulson is way out of his league, Elaine Chao is just qualifying for a pension and a cushy corporate position after she leaves and the rest are both evil and incompetent, a deadly mix.

8. but energy and food are not included in the consumer price index...
so as bad as the govt. has to admit it looks...

if two of the four areas nimrod is going to address were included in CPI...

things are even WORSE than they portray...

nice raid on the economy, neocons....

at least it worked out well for them....

27. however, mark my words on this
it WILL trickle down, believe me. The inflation is at the core of the economy right now and soon enough the price of clothing, appliances, etc. etc. will have to go up as well because of the cost to get such items transported from point A to your house is a lot more and the price of making all items will have to increase as well. Much of the inflation we are seeing is a direct result of the price of oil.

Hence, this inflation which will hit all areas of the economy soon and it will be reflected in the CPI whether they like it or not!

This is why no more I-bonds are being sold above $5,000 maximum limit and all of the new regs around them as well as the paltry ~1% base rate. The old I-bonds you could buy up to $30,000 at a time and could cash with a 3 month penalty any time after purchase. Some have base rates at well over 3% (if you are lucky enough to have any of these, I'd say do not sell them, hold as long as you can!).

This right here tells us something. THEY KNEW. :dunce:

9. It's going to take more than speechifying.
Only if he personally volunteers to pay my dental bills will I be even slightly moved. Otherwise, he might as well be reciting "Casey at the Bat." Hell, why doesn't he just do that?

HIS!

His hair is crisp, and black, and long,
His face is like the tan;
His brow is wet with honest sweat,
He earns whate'er he can,
And looks the whole world in the face,
For he owes not any man.
