ADAPT Takes over RNC Office, Blocks Sen. McCain's Office

3:00 PM -
One ADAPT group has taken over the Republican National Convention offices and another ADAPT group has blocked the office of presidential hopeful Sen. John McCain on Capitol Hill. Both groups are urging Senator McCain to publicly support the Community Choice Act (S.799), which would provide individuals with disabilities and older Americans with equal access to community-based attendant services and supports. Presidential candidates Sens. Hillary Clinton and Barack Obama are already co-sponsors of the legislation.

3:45 PM - Arrests are beginning at Sen. McCain's office and arrests seem imminent at the RNC.

Earlier in the day, ADAPT released a list of the Ten Best - Ten Worst States in Home and Community Services and Supports in front of the National Governors Association (NGA) offices.

1. Somehow I don't think this is going to make him support it.
Just a hunch though.

2. Cops threw deaf activist to the ground- ON VIDEO
HOLY...

http://www.disaboom.com/Blogs/disabled_politico/archive/2008/04/29/adapt-storms-john-mccain-s-office.aspx

Disabled Politico was at the protests and shot this video of cops throwing a deaf woman on the ground for not following SPOKEN instructions. WTF?! This is horrible! How is she supposed to HEAR their orders as she's screaming "I'm DEAF!"????

5. The dumb ass *o**e**u**e* cops must not be able to hear.
I suggest they be cured of their hearing loss. Take a sharp stick and shove it in both of their ears. (By the way I have a congenital hearing loss)

4. Why are you using all CAPS????
You need to learn proper posting. CAPS should only be used to emphasize a point within a sentence but not the whole sentence. Also, only for group names such as ADAPT and RNC or DNC because it represents a shorten abbreviated version of their name.

Using all CAPS is the same as yelling. And it is bad manners to talk very loud while talking to others. (In most cases)

Back in the old days when people wrote letters CAPS was rarely used as a form of writing.

8. Not good enough excuse... vision impaired can increase their font setting
Failing that then there is the speech accessibility feature.

13. I didn't know you were the official DU grammar nazi, but whatever.
Of all the things to go off on today, this seems a bit retarded.

16. How ironic.

this seems a bit retarded.

Many people with cognitive/intellectual disabilities vehemently object to "the R-word", some even comparing it to the N-word. And here it is used to defend a poster with a different disability.

edit: spelling

18. Retarded? Grammar Nazi? It's a matter of etiquette!
And it's not the first time I've pointed it out nor am I the only one.

I don't point it out when the original article also has it CAPS. Although I would still prefer it being in title case format.

And I also point out incorrect words too.

I'm sure your English teachers aren't considered Grammar Nazi's. And using the term retarded suggests that you have a problem dealing with those that you don't consider as good as you.

Oh, and I don't need your permission to educate or point it out to others.

14. AP: Disabled group members arrested at McCain's office
WASHINGTON - At least 20 disabled activists, most of them in wheelchairs, were arrested outside Sen. John McCain's offices Tuesday after being refused a meeting with the GOP presidential nominee-to-be over a bill to expand Medicaid coverage to more people who want in-home care.

"If he should be president, it would be ironic that he comes from a party that talks a lot about family values," said Bob Kafka, national organizer for ADAPT, a group advocating for passage of the bill. Without the legislation, many disabled and elderly people don't have the choice to apply coverage to anything other than institutional care, he said.

"Families are devastated because they don't have a choice to keep people at home," Kafka said.

McCain was not in his office during the protest. He was campaigning Tuesday in Florida on his health care plan.

15. Why would McCain want to help old people?
Didn't you know, the soulless never die and don't need wheelchairs.
