WILLOW CREEK -- A moderate earthquake has hit a mountainous region of Northern California. There are no immediate reports or injury or damage.

The U.S. Geological Survey says a magnitude-5.2 temblor struck at 8:03 p.m., centered about 11 miles southeast of the town of Willow Creek in the Shasta-Trinity National Forest.

Shasta County Sheriff's Detective Mark Haslam says the department has received no calls about the earthquake.

A dispatcher at the Humboldt County Sheriff's Department, just west of the epicenter, says there are no immediate reports of injury or damage.

I didn't feel it as I was cooking dinner.

Did anybody else feel it?

I thought this belongs in LBN due to the earthquake swarms off the Oregon Coast and in Reno, NV

I don't know if there is any damage in Willow Creek. I am about 100 miles from the epicenter at the moment. No info. here about so far.

I hope there won't be any big aftershocks!!!

6. same here
I left in 1991 after the Loma Prieta.

This was a fairly strong shake I'd say.

Still have yet to hear anything much about it.

The quake last week was a 3.7 and was in Bayview. I felt that one more but I was also more awake!

*eek*

9. update-felt as far away as San Francisco-still no damage reports
http://www.pe.com/ap_news/California/CA_Shasta_Earthquake_339256C.shtml

The quake originated about 11 miles below the surface on an unmapped fault, said USGS seismologist David Oppenheimer.
Because of its depth, few aftershocks were felt, scientists said. About three were recorded, with the largest measuring a magnitude 2.4, the USGS reported.

..
The quake was felt as far north as Crescent City near the Oregon state line and as far south as San Francisco, 320 miles away, according to citizen reports posted on the USGS Web site.

..
..
The last significant earthquake in the region was on April 25, 1992, when a magnitude 7.2 temblor struck on the Humboldt County coast near Petrolia, setting off a minor tsunami, according to the USGS.

No tsunami warning was issued for the quake Tuesday night.

5. I didn't feel the quake at all
Edited on Tue Apr-29-08 11:41 PM by PufPuf23
and was in Willow Creek most of the afternoon and live maybe 20 miles as the crow flies to the north.

The mountains are pretty fractured locally and buffer the quakes but it has been raining steady the last several days so CalTrans should be busier tomorrow.
