Bank of Canada Boss Talks Tough
Source: Canadian Press

The governor of the Bank of Canada says he will take a tough stand with financial institutions that wind up near bankruptcy because of poor decisions.

Mark Carney says the central bank won't bail out Canadian financial institutions like the U.S. government did when the Bear Stearns brokerage, one of the giants of Wall Street, ran afoul of the subprime mortgage mess.

"If you cannot make a judgment (on the value of an asset), you should not own the security," Carney told a Senate committee yesterday.

"There is very high value, if a situation came about, to ensuring the shareholders and senior managers bear the full consequences of their actions," he said.

How un-American of him. Expecting banks to take responsibility for their actions!

3. LOL. I'd be careful about dissing the Canadians
Unlike America, Canada has a viable future... and they have natural gas that US HOUSEHOLDS NEED to keep from freezing.

My guess is that sometime this decade, America's going to basically be Canada's Mexico.

17. I take no issue with a Free Person criticizing us Imperial Subjects of Amerika.

No problem at all. Canada still has some semblance of freedom left. You and I are surveilled from birth to death, every financial transaction, every medicicne prescribed, every place travelled to, to name just a few things of many.

Canada has hand-counted ballots, we have criminals counting ours in privatized (read criminally inclined) "voting" machines.

Canada has a Free Press. We have Cable TV Infoganda.

So, you know what? STFU, and I say that as a veteran of the armed forces of the Old United States (1776-2000, RIP Old Friend). Jealous of Canadian freedom? Why not make a break for the border or stand up to the Bushies.

But NO, that's too tough. So just kneel, grovel and obey. Then you can talk tough to some Free Canadians on the Internet and push down those feelings of being a member of the most cowardly, apathetic, not-caring-wheteher-we-are-free-or-not Imperial Subjects of Amerika.

We are collectively MUCH closer in mentality to the Germans who brought Hitler to power than we are the nation of people who helped defeat him sixty years ago.

Sorry the truth hurts. But if you yell at a Canadian loud enough, I am sure you can push any unpleasant feelings and thoughts about the cowardly state of our people and the totalitarian state of our nation.

Nothing is more disgusting than a subject of a totalitarian nation (like Imperial Amerika) giving shit to people from free nations...like Canada. It reminds me of how sick I used to feel when the Soviet Communists used to give us shit, back when America was free.

But now WE are the Soviets, in just about every way, shape and form. And we have no right to say shit to free people, especially when we just let the Bushies take ours as easy as taking candy from a baby.

:puke:

How bout we send you some colder weather in the winter and some hotter weather in the summer and offer to sell you some energy to counteract both. Sounds good to me.

Mind you it is only an offer.

Let me turn my air conditioning down just a little, I couldn't quite hear what you were saying. Not only that but this sea breeze whistling through the palm trees makes it hard to hear.

Be right back.

8. Canada is divided, much like U.S., but Canada will tip toward justice, unlike U.S.
The Stephen Harper Neocon government currently in power is a minority government. Unlike the U.S., Canadians have remained true to the New Deal ethos and did not forget the Great Depression. Unions are stronger there, Progressivism is stronger there, and justice is stronger there.

4. now that's a head....
....of a reserve that I could support....

"There is very high value, if a situation came about, to ensuring the shareholders and senior managers bear the full consequences of their actions," he said."

....in this country, we're expected to pull corporate Americas crooked chestnuts out of the financial fire with our tax dollars, but corporate America won't let us use our tax dollars to guarantee all Americans a job or healthcare....

....Socialism for the rich sucks, when it comes to slime like Bear Stearns, we need to be playing predatory capitalism....

12. Mighty Easy
To talk tuff when you don't have to worry about doing it.

When have you heard a banker go against money.

The Bank of Canada has lowered interest rates, but the banks haven't followed suit. Guess why.

They need the money! So his tough talk doesn't put any pressure om the banks and he walks away like the strong guy.

Just wait a bit until commodities take a dive.
