Thousands protest US bombing in Somalia: organisers
Source: AFP

MOGADISHU (AFP) - Thousands of Somalis took to the streets Sunday to protest a US bombing that killed a man said to be Al-Qaeda's chief in the country, and 11 other people, organisers and residents said.

The protest took place at Dhusamareb, a trading post of about 100,000 people, 400 kilometres (250 miles) north of the capital Mogadishu, where Thursday's attack took place.

Abdirasak Moalim Ahmed, one of the organisers of the protest, said that in the days since the attack, people had been vomiting. "We believe the Americans used poisonous bombs," he said.

The US air strike killed at least 12 people including Moalim Aden Hashi Ayro. The Somali government and western intelligence said was the leader of Al-Qaeda in the country.

Ayro in his early 30s, was military leader of the Shabab, a group on the US government's terrorist list. Their leaders are believed to have trained and fought with Osama bin Laden's Al-Qaeda network in Afghanistan.

Somalia has oil and gold. It ain't terrorists or Al-Qaeda. Follow the money. How many countries have "Bush declared terrorists" who are rich in resources?

It is to be part of the Middle East Union in the PNAC plan for Empire. Follow the dots please.

When did our intelligence community (leaders) get it wrong before? Ahh yes...Iraq and Afghanistan.

4. Yes it is Al-Qaeda and terrorists
If Somalia has oil or gold, please tell us where it is.

Sometimes a strike against terrorist leadership is a strike against terrorist leadership; do you oppose that policy?

2. Huh? We did what? Poison bombs!? We wouldn't do that!
Oh, yeah. We would.

B-but if it were true, we would have been told about it on CNN!

Oh, no we wouldn't.

5. Why use posion when 1000lbs of explosives will work fine?
I can say this because I am a combat certified joint terminal attack controller (ie. the US military has said I am qualified to call in an air strike).

There would be no need in this case to use a chemical or biologic weapon when a conventional bomb will work, especially when the target is in an urban area. From what I've read this was either a 500 or 1000 pound GPS guided bomb. Neither contain depleted uranium (that is used when you need to pierce armor or another dense object) because a bomb falling from 20,000 ft has enough momentum to punch through the roof of a stone house.

FYI, the 10% probability of incapacitation for a 1000lb bomb is about 200 meters. This means that if you are with 200 meters of this bomb when it goes off, there is a 10% probability that you'll be out of it for about 10 to 15 minutes. That would include nausea due to the overpressure of the blast. That is why people probably got sick rather than a chemical or biological weapon.

I wish posters would do some research about this rather than just throwing out accusations like "...it was poison." Trust me, no one, pilots or JTACs, want to be responsible for dropping or calling in a chem or bio weapon.
