U.S. court ruling on Tasers worries Canadian doctors

A court ruling in the United States about Tasers is causing concern in Canada's medical community.

The U.S.-based manufacturer of the controversial stun guns, Taser International, has won a court order in Ohio that forces a medical examiner to change autopsy reports.

Dr. Lisa Kohler had found that electrical shocks from Tasers were partially to blame for the deaths of three men in separate confrontations with police.

Taser International launched and won a civil suit, forcing Kohler to delete any reference to the deaths being related to electric shocks, and to term them "accidental deaths."

We have to didgest so much bad news on a daily basis that this is passing unremarked.

who'd been doctors, diagnosing other doctors' patients without ever seeing them (Shiavo).

So, is it all that unreasonable that judges want a piece of that 'remote control' action?

6. Tasers were created as an alternative to guns not as an alternative to good police work.

They have become the lazy cops answer to an unruly arrest.

They should be used only as they were meant. "Should I shoot? No I don't have to. I have a taser."

Not, "He's pissed me off and I'm tired." ZAP!!!

Oh yes people are noticing. Unfortunately they are only mildly amused.

7. I would like to see the ruling.

Without seeing the ruling itself, we don't know what evidence the company showed to refute the findings. Before you jump all over me I've posted several theories about these deaths, one is in the gun forum right now and one in the health forum.

how many more news reports do we have to read of unarmed people dying from tasers? it's frigging ridiculous. you don't have to be a doctor to see the truth here.
