Dennis Miller to Give Bush a Free Pass
Edited on Sun Jan-25-04 01:09 PM by The Backlash Cometh
LOS ANGELES - Dennis Miller (news) has usually been happy to spray his acerbic wit across the political spectrum, but things will be different on his new CNBC talk program. President Bush (news - web sites) is in a mock-free zone.

"I like him," Miller explained. "I'm going to give him a pass. I take care of my friends."

Miller is a familiar figure from his years on "Saturday Night Live," HBO and "Monday Night Football," but he will be in a different role on his daily show that debuts 9 p.m. EST Monday.

This is the Miller who has appeared at fund-raisers for Bush, ridden with the president on Air Force One, sat in the gallery at last week's State of the Union speech and was even talked about as a Republican senatorial candidate in California.

His fans didn't necessarily know that Miller. Now they do.

"Nine-11 changed me," he said. "I'm shocked that it didn't change the whole country, frankly."

14. Check this out:
Here's what he said:

"Miller cautions against making too many assumptions about his politics. He's conservative on taxes and defense issues but more liberal on social policy, he said."

""If two gay guys want to get married, I couldn't care less," he said. "It's their business. If some foreigner wants to blow their wedding up, I want my government to eliminate him."

So what happens when it's his right-wing looney buddies that want to "blow up" gay weddings?

7. OMG, this part is just too ripe:
-snip-

The show will feature interviews, a rant on a selected topic, a "Weekend Update"-like comic newscast and a pundit panel he calls "The Varsity."

And a monkey.

You read that right. Miller wanted a simian presence, believing a monkey occasionally scampering across the studio floor will keep both guests and viewers on their toes, he said.

giving Bush a free pass, AND a simian presence?

24. A monkey scampering across the set,
tearing up things, pissing on the floor, humping people's legs, throwing their crap at people, jacking themselves off in a corner... Sounds like our Resident will be there in spirit. I wonder if Dennis plans to show us how to demonstrate proper respect and deference to the monkey and how best to pleasure him.

What a total suck up Putz Miller has become.

You beat me to the punch, MrBenchley.

Seriously, it's as sad as it is disgusting to see Miller turn into a brown-noser. My guess is his primary motivation is financial, though it's entirely possible he has some silly notion that aligning himself with Republicans will bring a more secure country. Not likely, given all the enemies Bush is making.

by politicizing it. He used 9-11 for tax cuts, the Patriot Act, the 2002 elections. He alienated us from the entire world and caused further division in our own country.

What a schmuck. I hope his ratings suck and hope this is a failure like every other project Dennis has touched.

"At least I come out upfront and tell people about my politics," Miller said. "(Peter Jennings) sits there and displays it through subtle poker (expressions) all year long — the raised eyebrows, the arch tone of the voice."

THAT's his example of the "liberal media"? Raised eyebrows and a tone of voice?

This is the sort of willfull blindness that makes the issue impossible to discuss with some people. Miller's got a fucking GOP strategist as his producer and he's announced that he will not criticize Bush. The corporate-run CNBC says they have no problem with that.

Liberal media my ass. Miller is such a joke.

This show will not grace my television. He is working hard at building a hate Dennis Miller anti fan club. When you can't seem to succeed at anything, stir up trouble. Now with this announcement those of us really looking for a balanced media, will talk him up through negative reference, whining and complaining. The end result, more press for his show. There is no such thing as negative publicity.

34. He Forgets: Bush Doesn't Have Any Friends
Bush recognizes only two categories of people:

Victims (the gotchas)

and Masters (the Got MEs)

Since Miller could not fit into the Master category(unless he decided to take the path untraveled in this country and be a real, investigative journalist)

then he is volunteering for the Victim category. Another version of reality programming, coming up.

46. Too bad.
I personally think Dennis Miller is quite funny.

I like his sense of humor, but I don't think there's anything funny about his politics. I think it's fine that he has an opinion, even if I don't agree with it, but I'm frankly astounded that he can have these right-wing opinions given the Bush administration's obvious misdeeds and corruption. How bad does it have to get? Maybe he has compromised himself with financial entanglement with these beasts?

Hopefully he will see the light soon. I'll steer clear of his comedy if he promotes the neocon agenda with his act.

48. John McEnroe to follow DM - I'll watch that one
"John McEnroe, whose own talk show will immediately follow Miller's starting this spring, to have different views."

The thing that gets me about DM and the Repukes is they assume that no one could have done the job that Bush did after 9/11. Apparently this is the only thing Bush can run on.

They're right though - no one could have done a worse job!

Here's the question has Bush's performance merited the reward of a second term?

DM makes me puke. I used to like him back in the ranting days. He's latched onto 9/11-bush-cheney-rove and won't let go. Can't wait till Bush is booted out to see where all these neocons end up.

50. Yep, he's the "Anti-Franken," alright...
"It makes what you do different when you say, "I don't have a dog in this fight," Franken said. "It's a big choice to make. I made it. I made the same choice on the opposite side."

It's very simple, folks.

1). Dennis Miller is a whore (no new info here)

2). Al Franken had a phenomenally popular best-seller, helped in no small degree by the outrage expressed by Fox News and Mr. "Who's Looking Out For You" Splotchy Face

3). Al Franken is a former SNL cast member who had a modest, up-and-down post-SNL career before "Lies," now he's at the top of the liberal pundit hill

SO...Al Franken "made the choice on the opposite side," which was my reaction the minute Miller announced his move. His BS line about "I like him...I'm going to give him a pass...I take care of my friends" was a cold, calculated move to create controversy, get people talking, get people watching, and make Miller "The NeoCon Al Franken" or "The Anti-Franken."

Miller did make one mistake...9/11 DID change the whole country, so don't be so "shocked," bee-yatch.

Miller's going to give Bush a pass. As they would say on South Park, "Red Rocket! Red Rocket!"

100 points to anyone who gets that reference...

Dennis Miller needs to be punished for being a right wing ass kissing left-basher. He is also not a funny guy.

Once his show is on the air, it needs to be monitored and terminated, just like the right had the Reagan's cancelled.

The left needs to be as mean as the right and put the pressure on networks when they decide to become right wing propaganda machines.

64. Dennis the jerk.....
if nine 11 had changed him, he should have seen more clearly the way bush and his cronies used that tragedy to lead america in the WRONG direction. I don't like Dennis Miller and I certainly do not like George Bush.

66. 9/11 changed me - my ass
B4 the dark side completely claimed him, when he was still on HBO, his very 1st show after squatter started squatting..he had hitchens on his show. He asked hitchens his take on the new adminisrtration. Hitchens mumbled something, belched and squirmed. Miller says, 'I don't know, I think he's (squatter) gonna B great!!!?? Miller was on board loooong B4 9/11. Has he ever stopped Clinton penis asides?

67. It's not politics. It's money.
Who knows whaqt Miller really thinks. Or cares. He was going nowhere. So. He became a conservative mouthpiece. Rush wasn't always a hateradio trash talker. He worked at a radio station, they needed a rightwing talker, he became one at the station manager's order. Miller is no different. It's career revival. He's selling a product plus he gets to ride on George's plane. What other celebrities are inviting Miller over these days? The RWNs are all Miller has left. Same with Ron Silver. No decent acting jobs. Why not change your politics and get a few talk show gigs? Hey, it gets your face in front of the public. They'd become Islamic fundamentalists if it meant the spotlight and cash.
