Michael Moore Making "Fahrenheit 9/11" Sequel: Documentary to be released in 2009
Source: Variety

By PAMELA MCCLINTOCK, ANNE THOMPSON

Michael Moore is making a sequel to "Fahrenheit 9/11" for Paramount Vantage and Overture Films, who will shop the project to international buyers when the Cannes Film Festival and market get under way today. The two companies are co-financing and co-producing the untitled documentary, which will be released in 2009....

Moore may be leaving the Weinstein Co. -- where he made his last two films, including "Fahrenheit" -- but Overture and Vantage are no strangers to the filmmaker. Overture CEO Chris McGurk and COO Danny Rosett were both at MGM and United Artists, home of Moore's "Bowling for Columbine."

Moore also knows Vantage topper Nick Meyer, former president of Lionsgate's international arm. Lionsgate teamed with Bob and Harvey Weinstein and distributed Fahrenheit after Disney refused to let Miramax to do so. Lionsgate again teamed with the Weinstein's to distribute Moore's last docu, "Sicko."...

It's possible that his new docu could play at Cannes next year, if it isn't released earlier in the Spring. He's already at work on the docu....

Sequel will pick up where "Fahrenheit" left off. In the time since, President Bush's popularity has plummeted, while the Iraq war continues and the economy falters....

He's too gracious to stoop to doing stuff like that
Stuff that I would certainly stoop to.

Maybe some of this comes from his feeling of luckiness - he was fired from "Mother Jones" as he was too progressive and un-preppy for them.

Feeling despondent, he happened to either see a documenatry or run into a film crew doing a documentary.
Since he didn't think he had a future was a writer (This was before successful blogs could make you big bucks) he thought "Hey, I bet I could do that!"

And he has made over a hundred million and can do films on any subjects he wants.

11. the freepers are totally frustrated.
They think everything he says is a lie. If it was a lie, he could be successfully sued for slander. So far, he has NEVER been successfully sued, because truth is a defense to slander.

He said he has three lawyers who work for the New Yorker magazine, who are libel & slander experts, who check every single word in his films.

The Freepers just can't stand the truth. They hate it.

29. Here's the article on Moore and Weinstein Co. --
"Moore's decision not to make his next film with the Weinstein Co. comes after 'Sicko' failed to ignite the box office. Film, which took on the U.S. health care system, grossed $24.5 million domestically and $11.2 million internationally. Topically, the film didn't resonate with overseas auds.

Landing the 'Fahrenheit' sequel is a high-profile score for Overture and Vantage, and a likely blow for the Weinstein Co."

35. "Sicko" isn't going to resonate with overseas audiences
because access to healthcare isn't an issue for them like it is here. I suppose someone in the UK or Germany can watch it and shake their heads wondering when the US is going to join the 20th Century...

68. I saw it in Europe twice
And the impact was not nearly as strong as it was with Americans for the simple fact, as you say, that healthcare is such a given. Most people are shocked to learn how it is in the US, in a bewildered sort of way.

It is hard for anyone that I know in Europe to imagine a place where people are not allowed healthcare because of money or insurance or greed - of the populace and the healthcare system itself. Sacrificing lives to save or hoard money....

I can only dream that some day people in the US itself will not be able to imagine such a place...

60. it didn't resonate here because it was pulled out of
theaters before most people got a chance to see it. I was waiting with bated breath for it to show up somewhere closer than 50 miles away--it never happened. If I recall, there was some brohaha about someone buying the distributor just after it had debuted and then shut the whole thing down. It certainly opened to great interest and then just disappeared.

18. F911 changed my life
I was an apolitical Republican-leaning guy who would have voted for
McCain in 2000, but wouldn't vote for Bush or Gore. I went to see
the movie very reluctantly, as a civic duty. I thought MM was an
egotistical asshole, and all the reviews said the movie was
mean-spirited and full of lies.

What I saw there shook me--not just the allegations that the 2000
election was stolen and the Pet Goat and the Afghan pipeline
imperative, but also the perception that NPR and the "liberal media"
had not communicated these things to me.

That the fact-checking had been done by a respected law firm impressed
me, and I read Greg Palast's excellent "The Best Democracy Money can Buy"
I read Dershowitz and Bugliosi on the stolen election of 2000.

I started hanging out on the internet, challenging people "Show me the
lies in Fahrenheit 9/11." They couldn't do it. They all referred me to
Dave Kopel's silly "59 Deceits" website which self-destructs in the
third deceit by claiming that Jeffrey Toobin said something that Kopel's
own link shows he didn't say. The only lie I ever found was Moore's
statement that Bush's inaugural motorcade was "pelted with eggs." Only
one egg has been documented.

http://www.davekopel.com/Terror/Fiftysix-deceits-in-Fahrenheit-911.htm,

I had just completed a work assignment of several years' duration, and
decided to devote the month of October to internet activism for John
Kerry. The essential role of Bush's incompetence in the success of the
9/11 attacks was a central theme in my internet debates. But the more
I studied the facts the more I came to believe that nobody could be
that incompetent.

When the statistical evidence and the dirty tricks in Ohio suggested
that the 2004 election was stolen too, and the news media were downright
insulting about such suggestions, I came to believe that the country was
in big trouble, and became a full-time activist.

Fahrenheit 9/11 failed in its mission to transform the center of America
because it told too many truths Americans weren't willing to hear. And
Fahrenheit 9/11 didn't tell the half of it. The more you study 9/11, the
more you come to understand that al Qaeda could not have put NORAD to
sleep for 100 minutes, and that jet fuel can not have brought down the
twin towers. These realizations took me hundreds of hours of study over
probably 20 months to accept.

Recently Michael Moore said this about 9/11:

"I've had a number of firefighters tell me over the years and since Fahrenheit 9/11 that they heard these explosions-- that they believe there's MUCH more to the story than we've been told. I don't think the official investigations have told us the complete truth-- they haven't even told us half the truth."

"I've filmed there before down at the Pentagon-- before 9/11-- there's got to be at least 100 cameras, ringing that building, in the trees, everywhere. They've got that plane coming in with 100 angles. How come with haven't seen the straight-- I'm not talking about stop-action photos, I'm talking about the video. I want to see the video; I want to see 100 videos that exist of this," Moore said.

I hope his new movie covers what he left out of F911. I'll be doing my damndest
'til then try to to see that Americans are ready to hear it if he does.

51. It is very difficult to believe that our government lied to us so much
We're used to the reciprocal back-scratching, compromises, scandals, conflicts of interests, etc. that just seem to be part of the politcal game, but we have never EVER been lied to like we have been by this adminstration. It is beyond the pale, and tens of thousands of lives have been lost and hundreds of billions of dollars have been wasted for what? To give more to the "haves, and have mores". What the fuck do they care anyway? Don't they all think they're going to be raptured in their lifetime? They can't take their billions with them. Are they just hedging their bets? "Well I think I'm going to be raptured, but if I'm wrong, I want to be the richest motherfucker on the block." When I see the suffering they've caused, here in the US and worldwide, it just makes me sick to my stomach.

It is unbelievable to me that there is so little outrage and such little demand for a new investigation.

Even, if you think the worst they did was cover up their mistakes, that would be enough. There are GAPING holes in the 9/11 story, and we should demand adequate answers and accountability.

the only reason to be there Is to get Al queda.Even Liberals want to get those who caused the deaths

A total exposure of 9/11 and MM is the perfect one to do it. Exposure of 9/11 would explain a lot of the crisis we are now in. It's called screwing the Americans out of everything using fear. Starting with the 2.3 Trillion dollars gone missing 09/10/01 at the Pentagon. 9/11 is the 900 LB Gorilla in the room.

...the second will be horrible. Horrible to endure seeing what has happened the past 8 years, wasted. Total waste of everything.

Worse actually.

Apparently this is the only justice these criminals will ever see.

55. say, whatever happened to Ben Stein's documentary?
The one about the "lies" of Darwinists? Did it sink without a trace?

62. Believe it or not, I see it's still playing in some theaters here in Georgia
Don't know how it's doing though. I assume it's a write off theatrically, and they'll make their money selling DVDs to ignorant rubes.

56. It may have to be a trilogy.
I'll bet a lot more truth will gradually come out after Bush's term is over.

65. I'm getting tired of these political half-truth mockumentaries
Michael Moore perfected the art, and now the right is responding with that stupid Expelled movie.

What happened to the good old real Nova documentaries on PBS that I grew up with? No slant, not political motive, just facts.

84. I don't see any conspiracy theories on that site
I see a critical examination of available evidence.

Imagine what a different world we'd be living in right now if Americans had been more persistent in questioning authority and less willing to swallow unexamined lies.

80. Opinions on Micheal Moore
What are everybodies opinion on this guy. I think he is a good docmentary maker although many forget he doesn't act as the neutral they expect over here. Director class, but as a guy a bit of a loop IMO

81. Pet goat
That's was a great post. thanks~

I hope Moore's next 9.11 has as little of him as possible. Unfortunately, he's a little too polarizing for some middle of the road American's. I'd love to see him get crafty & bring in an honest republican or trusted American & have them be larger part of the "face" of his next documentary.

82. Only one problem with that:
We would need to find this fabled "honest republican" first.
