Turnout heavy in DeSoto (MS-01)
Source: DeSoto Times

DeSoto County election officials said extra ballots were being ordered in response to moderate to heavy turnout at the polls today.

DeSoto County Circuit Court Clerk Dale Kelly Thompson said 17,000 ballots were ordered prior to the polls opening early today.

"They are already asking us to print extra ballots," Thompson said.

One of the busiest precincts, Hernando East, reported voters casting ballots at a rate of 100 per hour.

I'm delighted that the turnout is strong, but after everything that's happend this year so far, how any election office could be unprepared is beyond me.

3. Is this the special election for Congress where a Democrat is close?
Or is this just more Primaries?

6. This is a special election house seat which was held by a GOPer
GOPer Wicker left the House seat he held since 1995. He was appointed to the Senate to take the seat Trent Lott resigned from last year.

The Dem, Childers, barely missed by about 400 votes getting a majority to win the April special election to fill Wicker’s old seat. Childers received 49.4 percent of the vote to the GOPer's 46.3 percent.

Today is the run-off between the two.

Dick Cheney was just there to fund raise for the GOPer.
