Dann resigns
Edited on Wed May-14-08 04:15 PM by AngryOldDem
Source: Columbus Dispatch

<<Ohio Attorney General Marc Dann resigned this afternoon, just hours after the inspector general's office launched a raid on his office.

The embattled Democrat made the announcement in a joint appearance with Gov. Ted Strickland in the governor's cabinet room, next to his Statehouse office. The governor called it a "sad day" for Ohio but said he is "pleased" Dann quit.

It's up to Strickland to appoint a successor until Ohioans vote in November on someone to fill out the final two years of Dann's term. Lt. Gov. Lee Fisher has been among those mentioned as a possible successor.<<

Good. Finally. This was an embarrassment that Ted Strickland and all Ohioans did not need.

ON EDIT:Updated with Dispatch bulletin on resignation; story is still in process of being uploaded to the site -- it won't open.

1. He's done good work
especially when it came to uncovering and prosecuting Noe for "coingate." He was an effective legislator.

I really, really hate it when a man like this is outed as a sexual predator who considers women to be meat on the hoof.

It's sickening.

9. He has done a lot to investigate GOP corruption
And so of course the seedy side of his life had to be exposed to the general public.

Spitzer and Dann, both attack dogs on Bush Admin corruption
Spitzer and Dann, both outed for their sexual excesses

Meanwhile all the corrupt GOPers, the majority of whom are also sexual deviants, are safer now that the corruption investigations have been shut down. Their sexual proclivities also will not be exposed.

3. Sorry to see a Dem go ... but he was responsible
for the work environment of those in his charge. These weren't low-level underlings, they were his key people he saw on a daily basis. What a sad mess for all concerned.

10. Basically, he was told that he was not in good standing with the party.
It was a nearly unanimous vote. One person, I think, was willing to give him the benefit of the doubt.

11. I think that's horrible
He wasn't convicted of a felony, for crying out loud. He mismanaged some human resources. Fire him, but geez. Thanks for that info. Peace.

6. GOOD
Fuckwit. We cannot afford to act like Republicans, and anyone who does should be ousted immediately. We need to be the party of responsibility.

8. Good
People like that shouldn't be allowed to hold office.

He was a detriment to the Party.

As to the good he has done previously... We can find someone else to do that work.

13.  Scandal-plagued Ohio attorney general resigns
Source: JULIE CARR SMYTH, Associated Press Writer

COLUMBUS, Ohio - Ohio's attorney general resigned Wednesday under threat of impeachment because of a sexual harassment investigation in his office and his extramarital affair.

Attorney General Marc Dann, a Democrat elected in 2006 on an anti-corruption platform, said at a news conference that he had to resign to preserve the ability of the office to carry out the priorities he established.

"It is now clear to me that the only way to protect these priorities for the office of attorney general and for the people of Ohio is to remove myself from the situation," said Dann, 46, in Gov. Ted Strickland's ceremonial Statehouse room.

He admitted May 2 to an extramarital affair with an employee that he said contributed to an atmosphere leading to sexual harassment claims against a top aide.

Three aides were forced out in the harassment investigation, .......
