McCain's wife sells Sudan-related investments

WASHINGTON - Cindy McCain, whose husband has been a critic of the violence in Sudan, sold off more than $2 million in mutual funds whose holdings include companies that do business in the African nation.

The sale on Wednesday came after The Associated Press questioned the investments in light of calls by John McCain, the likely Republican presidential nominee, for international financial sanctions against the Sudanese leadership.

McCain, who was campaigning in Ohio, said neither he nor his wife were aware of the Sudan-related holdings.

Last year, at least four presidential candidates divested themselves of similar holdings involving companies doing business in Sudan.

1. Where's the attention and outrage?
Oh, it's not a pastor, flag pin, or middle name issue. Nevermind.

2. I got one of those chain e-mails the other day that said that Cindy
is just regular folk, unlike elitist Michelle Obama. Raise your hand if you had two million dollars invested in Sudan exploiters!

7. Raise your hand if two million is such a tiny drop in the bucket for you
that you can't begin to know where it might be invested.

3. so, what do they intend to do with the money from this transfer?
unless the McCains give it to charity, they're unethically profiting from trading stocks tied to genocide.

4. It is a mutual fund. You're falling into a trap here. Find a real issue.

5. This is a real issue
If we have those in our party who are also too busy cashing dividend checks to care how they made the money they should be exposed too. If we want to make a case that we hold the real moral high ground we can't just bury our heads in the sand when the outcome might take down members of our own party.
