Alaska first state to hit $4 a gallon gasoline: AAA
Source: Reuters

LOS ANGELES (Reuters) - Alaska hit a milestone on Wednesday that could be a sign of things to come around the United States this summer -- it became the first state where the average price for regular gasoline reached $4 per gallon.

"It wasn't totally unexpected," said Geoff Sundstrom, spokesman for the travel and auto group AAA which issues a daily gasoline price report.

"Oil prices recently brushed against $127 per barrel so certainly, $4 gasoline could be in the cards for other states as well this summer," said Sundstrom.

At $4 per gallon, filling up a 15-gallon tank will cost $60.

Alaskans using self-service regular gasoline paid $4.006 per gallon, said the AAA Wednesday report.

The U.S. average for regular gasoline hit a record $3.758 per gallon, the same report showed.

2. I really think Alaska is in play this fall
Like Obama, McCain is against ANWR drilling, which robs Republicans of an advantageous issue there. Rasmussuen's last poll had McCain up 5 there. I think we can catch Republicans napping by having Obama run ads in Alaska, sending surrogates there to campaign and maybe even doing a visit there himself.

8. We are that bad here...
Our average is not over $4/gallon yet, as the majority of stations are staying around $3.87-3.97/gallon; but it is very close to happening here. I live in Vista, CA and my local gas station is a Chevron on the corner of E. Vista Way and Foothill and their prices were:

Regular $3.97/gal

Mid-grade $4.11/gal

Premium $4.21/gal

and last but not least...

Diesel $4.79/gal!!!

4. Berks County, PA-Premium gas is $3.99 9/10
...as of 05 13.
I believe we will hit $5/gallon by Thanksgiving.

FWIW, say CEO of Exxon this morning on Today show.
He acted like he was completely amazed by gas prices, and like things were completely out of his control. Market forces, supply and demand, etc.
Exxon made nearly $11 BILLION profit in the 1st quarter of 2008.

How did YOU do?

Have a great day.

9. I won't be there again until Dec., but I'd bet some of the Hawaiian islands are $4/gallon
especially the smaller islands like Lanai & Molokai...Hell, in 2001, I think gas was like $2.75/gallon on Lanai....And Kauai would be frightfully high as well...

11. regular hovering right below $4/gal, others higher in NW WA.
Not sure why diesel is higher as that is different from how it's ever been.
