Biden calls Bush comments 'bullshit'
Edited on Thu May-15-08 12:28 PM by sabra
Source: CNN

(CNN) — The chairman of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee Joe Biden, D-Delaware, called President Bush’s comments accusing Sen. Barack Obama and other Democrats of wanting to appease terrorists "bulls–t” and said if the president disagrees so strongly with the idea of talking to Iran then he needs to fire his secretaries of State and Defense, both of whom Biden said have pushed to sit down with the Iranians.

“This is bullsh**t. This is malarkey. This is outrageous. Outrageous for the president of the United States to go to a foreign country, sit in the Knesset…and make this kind of ridiculous statement,” Biden said angrily in a brief interview just off the Senate floor.

“He’s the guy who’s weakened us. He’s the guy that’s increased the number of terrorists in the world. His policies have produced this vulnerability the United States has. His intelligence community pointed that out not me. The NIE has pointed that out and what are you talking about, is he going to fire Condi Rice? Condi Rice has talked about the need to sit down. So his first two appeasers are Rice and Gates. I hope he comes home and does something.”

He quoted Gates saying Wednesday that we “need to figure out a way to develop some leverage and then sit down and talk with them.”

49. nope
Joe doesn't need KO to wind him up.

Not disparaging KO - I love him too, but I have met Joe Biden and seen his encyclopedic knowledge, insight, and passion first hand. Joe is not as erudite as KO, but he is every bit as passionate.

In this particular case, "bullshit" is as erudite as is needed.

God love ya, Joe!

122. How awkward it would be to have someone more qualified than the president...
working as their vice-president or SOS. If Democrats really cared about what is best for this country rather than making some meaningless, imbecilic political statement, then Joe Biden would be the Democratic nominee and, thus, the next president, because there would be no question as to who would win between him and McCain. Biden makes Obama and Clinton look like the novices they are. It's a shame that the Republicans aren't the only party run by fools.

132. it does feel backward, but Reagan and Bush2 were inexperienced
compared to many of their VP/cabinet members. Not the way I want it, but it has been done. I'd be happy to have Biden in the admin. as long as he's a strong Sec. of State or VP with heavy foreign policy portfolio - and as long as he wants to do it.

161. It Does My Heart Good
to know that _wow_ I am not the only one who Thought that Joe was most the qualified candidate (at least w/ reagrds to foreign policy) on those early debate stages. Those around me (mostly republicans) told me He'd never get there, and to their credit they were correct; however I still feel he is one of the best dems. to handle foreign policy and would be a great boost for Obama's less than stellar credentials on same. That being said I am and have been proudly supporting Obama for his message of change, and the ability he seems to posess to make things happen. GOBAMMA! GOJOE!:patriot: :patriot: :patriot: :patriot: :applause:

166. Not so...
People in the cabinet are chosen because they are specialists in their fields. It is ridiculous to assume that a president would be more experienced in all these specialties than all of his cabinet. It is the job of president to gather the best knowledge, make judgments, and implement that as policy. It is also ridiculous to take someone who has supreme expertise in just one area and make him the president just because of that.

Note that I am not endorsing the other extreme, as in George Bush who has no knowledge about anything (except maybe baseball) and no judgment or temperament to boot. :dunce:

as it turns out he didn't.

he said "bullshit"

Not because of some silly moral high ground or Pollyannish principles, but because of the idea that you should use curse words to add appropriate emphasis. This is a great example.

What Bush said was pure, unadultered BULLSHIT. That's the perfect word to describe it and I'm so thankful for people like Senator Biden for not pulling any punches.

Biden for VP, Sec of State, something in the top tier to ensure that his influence is felt, and not just heard on the occasional talk show.

58. I was at a couple of Joe's campaign rallys in Iowa
This is not new, nor a change of heart. It is just that it is getting covered. I can't remember the exact phraseology, but he quite bluntly said we had an absolute incompetent in the White House, and made references to the "crowd" or "gang" of thugs or some similar word surrounding him. I think he probably used the expressions "utter bull" or "bs" a couple of times.

"Out of touch with the American people"

"Devoid of reality"

"The military guys did their job...and the president was AWOL"
"What was this about"

George W. is trying to play Israeli sympathies against Obama, but he and his cohorts would love nothing better than to continue the tension and suffering in the Middle East.

To be criticized (especially on foreign policy) by the world leader who, in all of recorded history, clearly and overwhelmingly is the most ignorant, the most stupid, the most dishonest, the most incompetent, the most messianically delusional, the most obsessed with fucking his own mother and thereby outdoing his father, the most petty, and the most vindictive is actually a compliment. -straight talking guy with blue collar roots from Deleware! Not a big state certainly - Dems will win anyway - just a few electoral votes - but get Joe involved somehow - may Sec of State - somehow in the cabinet, Supreme Court - but get him on the campaign trail in Pennsylvania, Ohio, Indiana, West Virginia, Virginia, Georgia - back an forth - non-stop telling it like it is. He would be so much better than John Elwards - who I started supporting until he dropped out. Sorry to say, John Edwards just looks too slick, too cute and talks funny to be taken seriously, even though he has been the one saying what needs to be said about poverty and the two Americas. If he could have made it to the nomination, I would have supported him 100%. So, for now it is Obama! So let's get the true "straight talker" Joe Biden to get out there and keep the troops reved-up all the way to November!

Democrats were known for this kind of straight talk. If the current crop had talked like this starting eight years ago, we wouldn't be in the mess we are in now. American's love this. When did Dems forget that? Imagine if Kerry had called Chimpy a lying draft-dodging SOB and ripped his earpiece out and shown it to the world? The Repugs would have instantly become laughing stocks. But no; they knew they could count on the Dems being pussys. Let's hope Biden's words are the start of a trend.

.... I have been SCREAMING this since the day I came here in 2002. The Democrats play right into the pukes "milktoast" meme with their timid rhetoric.

People appreciate straight talk, without the nuanced embellishments of a John Kerry or the recalcitrant semi-whine of a Harry Reid.

Obama seems to have some chops in this area, that's the good news.

We really missed the boat folks. I completely respect the fact that only he stood by his promise to not endorse until after the primary season is complete, and then I'm sure he will work tirelessly for the nominee.

All it'll take is 50 prominent Republicans parroting the RNC talking points, a typically worthless mainstream media giving them all the air time they want and a majority of the public either ignorant of or unable to gain access to the alternative media (that will dare to show Cheney swearing or Bush the Lesser flipping someone off).

115. Yep....Joe Would Have Been A Great President
Edited on Thu May-15-08 09:54 PM by Steely_Dan
Joe Biden was my first choice and he remains my first choice.

I'm sorry to say this, but America missed out on what I believe would have been one of the greatest presidents in our history.

This was NOT a time to try and make presidential history. This was a time to get our bearings back, to get the pendulum to start swinging the other way. But we blew it....BIG TIME!

Is Joe perfect...nope. And he would be the first to admit it. Joe is one of us. Few people know that...

Joe is the second to last on the senatorial wealth list. He wasn't in it for the money.
He had to take a second out on his home to send his kids to college.
He takes a train to work every day.
His son is preparing to serve in Iraq.

I cannot put into words my extreme disappointment that Joe is not our nominee. He would have handed McCain his ass in both the debates and in the GE. Now, what do we have remaining? After watching the schoolyard crap that has flown back and forth between Clinton and Obama...I bet there are a few out there that wish Joe Biden were our nominee.

This was my last great hope for our country...that Joe Biden would return us to our former selves with compassion and strength...with intelligence born of reality based thinking. In my 55 years...most of which, following politics, I have never been more sure about this man, this true American. We missed our chance at a "genuine" leader...now it's a crapshoot.

Thank you "caucus system." Thank you "corporate media." Thank you $$$$. Thanks for making sure that we didn't get the very best on our ticket.

127. God bless you, P. You certainly aren't alone in your opinion on Joe Biden.
I'm just as frustrated and disappointed that the Democratic Party no longer cares about what is best for this country, a tag I used to think only belonged to the Repubs. Joe would have been a great president, but instead we're stuck with either an aging Republican who likes the Iraq war, a slick, snakeoil salesman who has proven nothing to us except that he's an arrogant jive artist who regards rural, bluecollar, white Americans with disdain, and an overly ambitious former First Lady who feels the world owes her the presidency--my lesser of 3 evils. I still plan to write in Joe's name on election day. I am loathed to give any of these 3 my endorsement by voting for them.

Besides he's not going to like what he finds when he gets back. No more butt kissing for Bush. Everyone is ready to kick it to hell and back.

All this internecine energy is just going to erUPT, across the Board, in a pyroclasm of cleansing. It is time. And Joe will be a warrior for truth.

Having said that, Joe was my choice. He and Richardson would have been the out of my way punk, slam dunk, ticket.

Now, instead of a slam dunk, it will all be decided by who hits the most 3-pointers.

154. Way to go Biden!
At least someone has the cajones to stand up to this administration! From the earliest onset Biden has been openly against Bush policy. Too bad America didn't get a chance to see the "real" Joe Biden during his campaign. He still is the most honest, forthright, outspoken, and truth to power Democrat we have in Washington. Biden tells it like it is. What a difference he would of made as President!

170. I was disappointed and dismayed though when Biden apologized for it
Edited on Fri May-16-08 03:25 PM by wishlist
CNN this morning (while I was in a waiting room) talked about him swearing and then apologizing for his statement, sounding wimpy and wishy washy. We cannot afford to have Dems speaking truth and then apologizing for their hard hitting remarks. Bush and Cheney and Rove etc never apologize and so it is no wonder so many Americans think Repubs are stronger and Dems are weak.

172. Actually, "malarkey" is a much more strongly pejorative term than "bullshit," implying
more a deceptive intent or deceit rather than mere foolishness or nonsense of content. I think he apologized only for offending the sensibilities of innocents, not for strongly disparaging the words of a POTUS.
