But first the Marine wrote to Rep. Maurice Hinchey, D-Hurley, who represents his area in the House of Representatives. He urged Hinchey to do something about what he called the medical malpractice of military doctors. One way to do that: Override the Feres Doctrine, a 1950 ruling of the U.S. Supreme Court that prevents malpractice lawsuits against military doctors. That is an option commonly open to the general public.
