Chelsea might run for office one day, says Bill Clinton
Source: Times of India

23 May 2008, 0615 hrs IST,AFP

WASHINGTON: Former president Bill Clinton does not rule out the possibility of a third member of his family running for president one day.

Asked in an interview with People magazine, to appear Friday, whether his 28-year-old daughter Chelsea Clinton would ever consider running for office, the ex-president said: "I don't know.

"If you asked me this before (January's Democratic nominating contest in) Iowa, I would have said: 'No way. She is too allergic to anything we do.' But she is really good at it."

New York Senator and former first lady Hillary Clinton is currently battling for the Democratic presidential nomination. An early setback motivated the only child of the political power couple to get involved.

Bill Clinton said his daughter joined Hillary Clinton's campaign after realizing her mother "lost Iowa 100 percent because of younger voters."

16. Dynasies are bad only if the president is bad
And Clinton was terrific.

If Chelsea is good, I'd vote for her. I don't vote for last names.

32. Would you have voted against FDR?
There are certain families that should never run. One being anyone descended from Prescott Bush.

But I agree with you on the Bushes.
Similarly I think we deserve something better than what Clintons have to offer.
And that's why I'm a Barackuda.

Speaking of real dynasties, I also like
Caroline Kennedy for carrying Ted's torch,
though I'm sure his wife Vicky would be
great, too.

34. You're right-- we vote them in
You're right-- we vote them in. So even if say Bobby Kennedy wasn't shot and had won the nomination and then the White House, it *still* wouldn't be a dynasty. I imagine the same goes for the Adams or the Clintons.

Unless you'd like to see additional restrictions placed on who we can or can not vote for based simply on lineage and pedigree. But to me, that sounds downright un-Democratic...

I'd the first to complain about it (and have a real problem with it)-- but I wouldn't call it a Dynasty.

(Though I would call a pretty poor choice for the GOP nominee, but I tend to say that about every four years... )

25. Then she better get out of hedge funds
and do something constructive with her time if she expects me to vote for her.

From my standpoint, Chelsea's hedge funds are just as unexciting as her mother's connections to Rose Law and Walmart.

I'd rather see Amy Carter run for office. She has seemed to follow in her father's footsteps as far as community service goes.

26. Well, she would have the right if she wants, just like
any other American. But as long as it's HER choice and HER decision and what SHE wants and NOT what her parents want and try to force on her. And I sure wouldn't vote for her just because of who she is. She'd actually have to earn that vote. I don't believe in unearned dynasties no matter who it is.

and I will take this opportunity to say that I support neither candidate at this point, but the anti-Clinton bile spewing fest here is repulsive and way over the top. A lot of the negativity seems to be bandwagon mentality, with many of the aspersions stemming from ignorance, false assumptions &/or misinterpretion, intentional or otherwise.

51. Why do people assume she'd be a good president?
Your kids, my kids could run too, they have just as much right and just as much promise. If Jenna Bush were to run, would everyone assume she would be like her father? Would we expect Spitzer's girls to be great governors or attorney generals? What about Andrew Cuomo? He seems to have more experience in serving the public and he does interviews.

What I hope for Chelsea Clinton is a happy marriage with a person who loves and respects her (and treats her well), healthy loving children and a fulfilling career and hopefully, a life without the need for Secret Service.

This is idle conjecture and a Bill Clinton ego masturbation.
