A co-chair of Clinton's Hispanic council endorses Obama

WASHINGTON — A California congressman who is co-chair of Hillary Clinton's National Hispanic Leadership Council has defected and pledged his support to Barack Obama, Clinton's rival for the Democratic presidential nomination.

The defection came as a new poll showed that Obama would handily defeat John McCain in California in November_ and do so by a larger margin than Clinton would.

U.S. Rep. Dennis Cardoza, whom Clinton named to his Hispanic leadership post in December, shortly after Cardoza announced he would support her for the nomination, announced he was switching sides on Friday.

"I believe that Senator Obama will inevitably be our party's nominee for president," Cardoza, a Democrat from Merced, in the San Joaquin Valley, said.

2. She'll still have...
... all those white women over 50 who think the only important issue in this election is that a woman win it.

11. No kidding. And I, too, am a white woman over 50.
Couldn't help noticing in that family photo how Barack is sitting there utterly surrounded by and outnumbered by women. Yes, there ARE republi-CONS who have daughters, but they don't have Obama's opened and enlightened mind.

He does have an opened and enlightened mind...
Thankfully there are those of us who don't look at gender...

We're out in droves, also!

15. Maybe they mean uneducated white women over 50?
Another over 50 woman here that will not vote for Clinton. She lost my vote on October 10, 2002.

25. I've been thinking about the education aspect......
The 'piece of paper' degree, in my opinion, doesn't really reflect anything. I know many educated people who have no interest, or just listen to MSM, and really have no clue. We are all educated here, regardless of 'education'. My problem with society in general is that many don't really take the time or have the interest to do actual research.
I'm surprised, and pleased that this election is bringing out more voters....now that people's lives have been affected in one way or another.
A woman and an African American have had a huge impact.
In a way, that disturbs me....but whatever brings people to pay attention....
But they must judge by the integrity of the candidate.
Sadly, there are too many women looking at gender.

peace~

31. I'm with you

There will be a historic moment with either candidate. We will have the first black First
Lady in the White House and the first black daughters if Obama wins. Why aren't these
women celebrating that? A huge breakthrough for black women and a wonderful role model
in Michelle Obama? This should be celebrated and it WILL be celebrated.

13. Nah, she has two strong demographic groups
She still has a slim majority of women over 50, and she has 9 out of 10 KY voters who see race as their major issue. Those two groups are her huge coalition.

17. I'm Hispanic. She never had me.
And I heard someone with a Jewish-sounding name on MSNBC Thursday saying that Barack has ~65% of the "Jewish vote." That was before her latest (and biggest) gaffe.

9. That's a big one. The Hispanic Union vote is important to Hillary.
I am now wondering if RFK Jr. will soon switch. That's not so much about hispanic, but he surely sees what's going on.
