Radio Host Fired For Kennedy Murder Quip
Source: CBS News/AP

Pittsburgh-area sports radio host Mark Madden has been permanently taken off the air by ESPN.

The Pittsburgh Post-Gazette has quoted Madden as saying he had hoped Sen. Edward Kennedy "would live long enough to be assassinated." The Massachusetts Democrat has a brain tumor.

Madden made the remark during his show Wednesday. The show has aired weekdays from 3 to 7 p.m. on 1250 ESPN. Madden was last heard on the air Thursday, the day before his comments appeared in the Post-Gazette.

ESPN spokesman Josh Krulewitz says the network removed Madden from the air "pursuant to our contractual rights." He says the comment was inappropriate and that ESPN and Madden had apologized to listeners.

they're big-time moneymakers for their stations so
they always end up resurfacing somewhere. Opus and

6. I'm betting Fox Sports Radio Network in Pgh hires him
The slob has his fans and had the highest rated sports show in Pittsburgh. Amazing how many of his jerk listeners are defending him today and ticked at the newspaper sports reporter who had the integrity to expose the slob.

I have never witness so much arrogance without substance when I turned on Sports Talk Radio here in Massachusetts. Jezus are they clueless.... but heck, try telling a meathead he's wrong... clueless.

18. or Clear Channel
the Mays family pigs from Texas that are bushfriends

http://www.partytown.com/cmp/nepotism.htm

It seems as though the millennium is turning into the "Age of Nepotism". From the White House, to Clear Channel, one can draw a family triangle of sorts tying top government officials with top media ownerships. For example, we have been forced to accept a second generation of Bush in the White House, who's brother was conincidentally involved with the election controversy as Govenor of Florida.

While President Bush now resides in Washington D.C., the nepotism continues, linking him with the largest commercial radio station group owner, Clear Channel Communications out of Texas. Lowry Mays, CEO of Clear Channel is very friendly with the Bush family, being a fellow Texan with a background in petroleum interests. Another link between Bush and Clear Channel exists between the deal that was made when Bush sold his interest in the professional baseball team, the Texas Rangers, to Tom Hicks, then CEO of AMFM Communications. Tom Hicks, of the leveraged buyout firm Hicks, Muse, Tate and Furst, has had substantial interests in the radio broadcast industry.

After the Telecommunications Act of 1996, Hicks combined radio companies (Chancellor Media) with his brother Steve Hicks (Capstar Broadcasting) forming AMFM. which was then aquired by Clear Channel Communications bringing in the Mays family. Lowry Mays, the patriarch is CEO of Clear Channel. His two sons, Mike and Randy are also closely tied in as Chief Operating Officer and Chief Financial Officer. Clear Channel engulfed nearly 70 seperate radio groups across the United States. While on the campaign trail last year, FCC commissioner Michael Powell along with his infamous father General Colin Powell were being prepped for top offices under the hopeful Bush administration.

:rofl:Thanks for the perfect retort to my child next time my child uses that on me. If I can remember it, that is.

Back to topic: I'm glad at least this one got fired. Besides being absolutely despicable, that dj makes it obvious that he's just a mindless copycat. I was afraid these kinds of remarks would happen. I hope the broadcasting industry shuns him, although I'm sure some bottom-feeder network will scrape him back off the bottom.

Steelers/Hines Ward Controversy

On November 14, 2006, Madden reported that Pittsburgh Steelers wide receiver Hines Ward was appearing at Ross Park Mall in Pittsbugh to sign autographs at BC Sports, and that tickets for one signature started at $175. <4>. Madden claims that the following day, Ward was extremely upset at the Steelers' media department because the segment portrayed Ward in a negative light. Madden claims that the Steelers called ESPN Radio 1250 to complain about the incident. <5>. Just a day after that, Madden was fired from the WTAE-TV Sunday evening sports program Action Sports Sunday as a result of Madden's on-air language (used the word 'jackass' during a broadcast). The team made the argument that they did not care for it, yet he contests that he has used similar language for years. The team allegedly threatened to cut off WTAE from access to Steelers for interviews if Madden was not removed. There has been some speculation about the incidents being connected by fans of Madden and, of course, by Madden himself. As a result of this and other incidents, Madden now refers to Ward as "Whines Hard" when discussing him on his radio show.

Wikipedia

on edit:
His notorious commentating role began in early 2000 during the company's ratings downfall and lean toward more adult content. This had him obnoxiously calling matches, favoring heels, lusting toward females, and arguing with his fellow commentators. Madden did, however, coin the term "Spinarooni" to describe Booker T's signature windmill move. This name has carried on for many years in various wrestling promotions.

Madden's role in the company was certainly not without its controversies; he was once suspended for calling Dallas Page "Leatherface," a harsh nickname he had acquired in the smark community, on air. Shortly before WCW dissolved in 2001, Madden was fired for making disparaging remarks about the company, lobbying for the return of the fired Scott Hall, and disclosing information about the sale of WCW. <1>

24. Unfortunately Someone Else Will Hire This ASSHOLE
because he's been an asshole for a very long time and gets fired and hired.

Madden has also worked within mainstream sports journalism, including fifteen years at the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette, where he primarily covered high schools for the paper's suburban sections, as well as stints at the now-defunct Penguins Report and the weekly Pittsburgh City Paper. He subsequently appeared as a featured guest on Action Sports Sunday on WTAE-TV, a half-hour sports discussion show. The Post-Gazette reported on November 17, 2006 that WTAE-TV dropped Mark Madden as a freelance sports commentator on its Sunday night sports show. <2> Madden has been writing a weekly column called "Monday Madden" for the Beaver County Times since May 28, 2007.http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mark_Madden
