19,000 leaving GM as automakers regroup
Source: USA Today

DETROIT (AP) — General Motors (GM) said Thursday that a quarter of its U.S. hourly workers are taking the company's latest buyout offers, opening the door for new hires who will make less money.
Automakers are scrambling to cut costs and adjust production plans amid to high gas prices and the weak economy as U.S. buyers shift away from trucks and SUVs to smaller more fuel-efficient vehicles.

GM said that 19,000 workers had agreed to take the buyout offers and leave the company by July 1. GM offered buyouts to all 74,000 of its U.S. hourly workers in February.

1. Automakers make less profit on small cars
So sure, they need to pay the employees less.

"Oooops, almost forgot my republicon homelander Compassionate Conservative Propaganda Talking Point: 'Too bad and stuff about these GM proles. I suggest they do what we republicon fat cats do when we are in a pinch - withdrawk a couple of hundred K from their anonymous Swiss Bank Accounts, party down, and forget all your troubles. Smirk."

3. Wow - a QUARTER of GM's hourly workers? This is big news. Keep this one bumped.
This is George W. Bush's world; we only borrow our time in it.

These evil people have pretty much won. Yeah, we hate and despise them, but here's another "victory" - lower wages, another end to the middle class.

The Dems were enablers, for sure, but Bush has done just about everything but destroy the last vestiges of the social safety net - i.e., Social Security, Medicare.

He's not done yet. We still have a full-scale attack on Iran to live through.

7. Just think of the ripple effect.....
this will have on the economy. That's 19,000 workers who will no longer get a steady paycheck. They'll all have less money to spend. Couple this with Ford's workers who are also getting cut.

This is the face of a Bush economy. We've had almost 8 years of this crap. It'll take decades to turn it around if ever. It won't be in my lifetime.

President Obama has a tough road ahead of him.
