(Jerry) Brown won't fight court ruling on same-sex marriage
Source: San Francisco Chronicle

Conservative groups that want the state Supreme Court to delay same-sex marriages in California until voters decide whether to reinstate a ban on those marriages in November ran into opposition Thursday from Attorney General Jerry Brown, whose office defended the ban in court.

A week after the 4-3 ruling striking down the law that allowed only opposite-sex couples to marry, Brown's office urged the court to let its ruling take effect in 30 days, as scheduled, despite the possibility that it would be undone later by a ballot measure.

... Liberty Counsel, representing the Campaign for California Families, filed a similar request Thursday and warned that "the plague of same-sex marriage will soon spread rapidly across the nation" if the ruling takes effect.

... Krueger, the state's lawyer, said the possibility of a reversal by the voters does not justify withholding rights from those who are legally entitled to them.

"Such an action would be tantamount to putting the (ballot) initiative into temporary effect more than five months before it is even submitted to the electorate," he wrote. "The court would ... set a dangerous and highly questionable precedent were it to manipulate its own processes to accommodate a political interest."

2. Horror! Horror!
And then the evil specter of tolerance might follow this plague - and soon we might start treating each others as equals!

5. Well the TX constitutional amendment said the only one man and one woman can be married in TX and
the state does not recognize that marriage, you can see that the institution of marriage is under attack by the RW nutz

13. Oh, God, No!
I'm glad he has found an area he is good at, but he was a horrible governor. California highways have yet to recover from his CalTrans director. And to "show solidarity" with Prop 13, he unilaterally cancelled what was at the time the (negotiated) first pay raise state workers had had in years.

8. What we need to do is have same sex marriage for a period of time
before it can be voted on to make the fundies prove their claims.

12. And one of the lowest divorce rates in the country, too IIRC
Unlike many of the states pushing these "DOMA" amendments.

But logic has nothing to do with their objections. It's bigotry coated in a thin veneer of fake religiosity.

17. No! No! Not the plague!!
Quick, Quick, get the plastic wrap and duct tape.

Cover all of your doors and windows. Maybe that will keep the plague out.

<snark>

These people really only know how to spread fear, don't they?

18. Why do people get to vote on civil rights?
what if we had a referendum on whether men should be able to vote? And all the 51% women voted no?
