SITE red-faced as Islamist 'Washington ruin' image turns out to be from Fallout 3 game
Source: Daily Telegraph

The SITE Intelligence Group said that the image, showing a ruined Capitol Building in Washington, was created by extremists as part of discussions about the feasibility of nuclear strikes against the US and Britain.

The images appeared in a video, called Nuclear Jihad: The Ultimate Terror, posted on two password-protected websites, al-Ekhlass and al-Hesbah, believed to be affiliated with al-Qa’eda.

SITE also released translated several chatroom threads from al-Ekhlass and al-Hesbah, discussing the possibility of nuclear attacks on the West.

However, it has transpired that far from being a detailed simulation created by terrorist masterminds, the apocalyptic vision is in fact lifted from the computer game Fallout 3, by US game designers Bethesda Softworks.

11. The people at the SITE Intelligence Group are a bunch of Greedy Government paid Contractors...
...who sell terrorist DVD's video they find on the internet, rather than giving them away for free. That's just wrong on so many levels in my opinion. They have no credibility with me and may be part of the problem.

16. The disussion wasn't lifted from a video game
That picture is well-done. But, the fact that it comes from a video game instead of al-Qa’eda's copy of Photoshop means nothing, really. It was used to illustrate a point, I assume, in that alleged discussion about nuclear strike capability. I guess it was effective.

26. True
It's just porn for those who would kill every man, woman and child in America. We can disagree how we want to deal with that threat, but we still need to be intellectually honest and acknowledge that no matter who created it for whatever purpose, it's what Islamic radicals want for us.

27. It is a video game, it has nothing to do with what "Islamic radicals want for us"
It is not "intellectually honest" to look at a game that has nothing to do with Al Qaeda and say "that is what the terrorists want".

29. They took the picture from the game
and portray it as something desirable. Now, we have a lot of funny artworks and pictures that portray Chimpy as a stupid man, just because we didn't create them, doesn't mean that we don't agree with them, quite the opposite is true.

Like I said, we can disagree what to do about it, but you HAVE to acknowledge that the most extreme Muslims wish the destruction of America and everything connected with it. That means a lot of innocent people would indeed perish if they got even a portion of their way. Just because they are Muslim fundamentalists rather than Christian fundamentalists does not make them any damn better. Both groups believe in the "change to my way of thinking or die" philosophy, but the Muslims have been a bit more active in that department that the Xtians lately...

30. Maybe, but the religious right is responsible for more death and destruction than any Muslim group
Look at all rapture ready crowd, these people spend their days awaiting global apocalypse. Many of them are focusing on Israel because they believe that when certain conditions are met in Israel Armageddon will begin and they will be brought up to heaven. There are a lot of people who believe the "Left Behind" books could become reality, and are in fact determined to make it reality.

You better believe that many of these people work for the Pentagon, they were some of the leading voices that pushed the Iraq war, and they are pushing another war with Iran. They are the ones inflaming the situation in the Middle East, and they are the ones that actually have the capability to do something like what was pictured in the screen shot. Everyone wants us to be scared of the Muslims, but in reality the people we should be really afraid of are the religious right.

36. The only reason they might be more dangerous
is that they have better "toys" than the fundie Muslims. They also have more restraint applied to them.

But for real confirmation of what I'm saying, wait until the Iranians get nukes.

Don't believe the White House spin, there is only one country who has used nuclear weapons against a civilian population and it was not Iran.

The shells of the tall buildings, on the left (WHERE I LIVE) do not exist. Nothing in that (my) quarter of the city is over eight stories.

Next thing you know these asshats will be presenting "Independence Day" as a documentary.

They should know they have no credibility, yet they keep trying. Go figure.

31. SITE is laughable.
"Laura Mansfield", the soccer Mom who just happens to be the only person on the planet who consistently stumbles upon Osama bin Laden videos on the internet, is beyond belief. SITE just happens to have a studio for producing videos. And they are amatuers to boot. No one on their best day could believe those OBL videos are real. The fakery is obvious if you watch them closely.

And now this. But hey, a lot of government folks pay big bucks for the SITE 'intelligence' newsletter, so they gotta keep feeding the gullible idiots crap.
