Monsanto To Sprout in Central America
Melinda Peer, 06.19.08, 4:20 PM ET

Monsanto's latest acquisition plants its seed business in Central America, where the company foresees abundant growth once it receives regulatory approvals to plant genetically-modified crops.

Genetically-modified crops are currently only allowed in Honduras but that looks to change as governments become increasingly concerned about global food supply (See: U.N. Meets On Global Food Crisis). On May 29, the U.N.'s Food and Agriculture Organization called for a reconsideration of genetically-modified crops, which have been banned by most governments (See: Food Crisis Spurs Calls For More Research).

él tiene gusto de él! Hey Miguel!!!

I'll be surprised if Central America is any more fond of GM foods than they are any of the other
American-dominated products. But just in case they do sprout....keep the RoundUp handy.

2. "...only allowed in Honduras but that looks to change..."
Not if they've been looking at recent statistics which show that crop yields with GMOs are 15% lower, that indigenous corn strains in the farthest reaches of Mexico are polluted with the genetics of Monsanto's corn planted many, many miles away, the (unconfirmed) stories I've heard about entire herds of cattle dying off after being fed GMO fodder or, best of the bunch, the fact that a huge number of formerly independent Mexican farmers are now barely surviving in a hostile U.S. because NAFTA + U.S. farm subsidies murdered their way of life and left them impoverished.

Control over energy, food and water are the three things you need to have complete control over any nation and it's people. The naked ambition of our corporatocracy in these three areas is blatant and offensive to basic human rights. That the U.N. is assuming the role of pimp for Monsanto or any other U.S. mega corporation - a position they apparently share with the World Bank and the IMF - is unbelievably sad.

Thanks for the heads-up. This issue is very near and dear to my heart. Perhaps their more enlightened neighbors in S.A. can talk some sense into them.

3. Jackals & EHMs
I would have to guess that the economic hit men have already gotten to the Central American governments. If they don't play along nice with Monsanto now, we'll start hearing about mysterious deaths of Central American political leaders.

4. The World according to Monsanto
I have posted this link before. If you have not seen this documentary, you really should.
Monsanto is EVIL. They want control of the worlds food supply and they are on their way to getting it.

5. Hmm, this food shortage is working out nicely, isn't it?
Here, let us help you. There, there. Even if you think GM is ok, Monsanto is truly evil epitomized. I wouldn't want them anywhere near my country.
