Bush praises lawmakers for allowing gov't eavesdropping
Source: USA Today/AP

WASHINGTON (AP) — President Bush has praised members of Congress for reaching a compromise on legislation to permit government eavesdropping in the war on terror.

In a statement at the White House Friday, the president also said he was pleased that the House passed "a responsible war funding bill" that supports troops in Iraq without requiring "artificial timetables" for their withdrawal.

He said the bill permitting government wiretaps and other eavesdropping techniques will help the intelligence community monitor any plans by terrorists to again attack the United States.

6. Can a news agency just come out and say he's lying?
"He said the bill permitting government wiretaps and other eavesdropping techniques will help the intelligence community monitor any plans by terrorists to again attack the United States."

No, actually, that's not true. There was never any danger of letting terrorists escape under the old FISA rules. If you needed to do surveillance immediately, you could. You just had to get retroactive clearance. That insured that the government had at least some measure of accountability.

The fourth amendment to the Constitution of the United States: 1791-2008?

The right of the people to be secure in their persons, houses, papers, and effects, against unreasonable searches and seizures, shall not be violated, and no Warrants shall issue, but upon probable cause, supported by Oath or affirmation, and particularly describing the place to be searched, and the persons or things to be seized.

IT'S A BALD-FACED LIE!! We're so used to being lied to, no one even seems to care anymore.
