Obama Leads McCain by 15 Points as Voters Reject Republicans
Source: Bloomberg

Democrat Barack Obama has opened a 15-point lead in the presidential race, and most of the political trends -- voter enthusiasm, views of President George W. Bush, the Republicans, the economy and the direction of the country -- point to even greater trouble for rival John McCain.

Illinois Senator Obama, winning support from once skeptical women and Democrats, beats McCain 48 percent to 33 percent in a four-way race, a Bloomberg/Los Angeles Times poll shows. Independent candidates Bob Barr and Ralph Nader get 7 percent combined, with the remainder undecided.

Obama's margin and most of the poll's findings in other areas give the Democrats a commanding advantage more than four months before the November election, says Susan Pinkus, the Los Angeles Times polling director.

``The Obama voters are much more energized and motivated to come out to vote than the McCain voters; McCain is still struggling to win over some of his core groups,'' she says. ``The good news for Obama is also that he seems to be doing better on the issue that is uppermost in voters' minds, and that is the economy.''

2. "McCain is still struggling to win over some of his core groups..."
What a pathetic candidate/campaign. They had, what, a three month headstart? And accomplished nothing.

15. It's amazing he won this nomination ...

It's amazing to me that they couldn't muster a candidate that appealed to their core constituencies. Who were the Republican candidates?

1) A self styled "Maverick" who often sided with Democrats and needled Republican pundits. Then, flip flopped on all his issues.
2) A Mormon attempting to appeal to FUNDAMENTALIST Christians. Someone has to explain to that guy that the book of Mormon is NOT IN THE BIBLE, ERGO, ..., NOT FUNDAMENTALIST!!! THERE WERE NO GOLDEN PLATES!!!
3) A preacher, but a psuedo-liberal one. He was so psuedo-liberal, that he liked to let murderers out of jail just because they "found jesus".
4) A libertarian.
5) A lazy assed actor who couldn't even be bothered to run for a second term in the Senate.
6) A cross dressing social liberal who couldn't utter any word that did not contain 9/11.

Republicanly Flawed, no doubt also probably have corporate issues:
Sam Brownback - Believes in Evolution (Republican Flawed as well).
Jim Gilmore - Supports abortion before 8 weeks.
Tommy Thompson - Pro Choice

And then you have:
Duncan Hunter
Tom Tancredo

Fauxtily Flawed:
Tom Tancredo - Against cheap workers via illegal immigration, against free trade
Duncan Hunter - Limited Free Trade Support

Now I don't want any of those guys to become president either. But somehow you think that these other candidates without "Republican Personality Flaws" could appeal to voters. What really happened is that they couldn't appeal to big corporate donors that control the Republican party. And they did not appeal well to Faux News.

John McCain had no substantial capability to raise money and the media had written off. I personally believe that McCain coasted through this election via his prior reputation as a "maverick" and the fact that the media darlings were all "Fatally Republican Flawed". I liked the maverick myself. But, that man is gone and that is left is an ass kissing flip-flopper. It becomes more and more apparent EVERY DAY. I think every time John McCain opens his mouth it becomes more and more apparent that he is no longer the maverick and this is why we see his poll numbers continue to drop. Had the media covered McCain this extensively during the primary, I don't think he would have won the primary.

19. A "top republican" has to be pulling the strings here. Rove?
'HE' hath decreed that McCain be the nominee and the sheeple just followed.
The "good republicans" (oxymoron) never get picked - like Chuck Hagel; Dick Lugar; Olympia Snowe; ex-Senator from Rhode Island (cant think of name)......

That was a correct statement, as is yours.

at one time. So, never take anything for granted, and never let your guard down!

12. But here is the good news
Obama is more "vetted" than Dukakis was. And he is FAR more savvy about the negative campaigning that is to come. That Willie Horton caught Dukakis flat footed.

I liked him, I voted for him, but he sucked.

Obama is the best candidate we've had in a long, long time.

11. I don't put much into this, but I'm sure glad it's not reversed!
I'm much more comfortable with these numbers than if they were reversed, but I do think it's a much narrower advantage than that. Perhaps 4-5 points, at most, were the election held today. It's hard to even quantify because it's such an abstraction to voters presently. We also must remember the closet racist factor.

overdrive and try to diminish the excitement around Obama and his support. Their thought is "if we cant get high numbers, try to take away the opponents".

22. At this point (very very early) with 19% "undecided".........
......considering a 60-40 split in favor of McSame, I'm not a mathematician, but it still looks like an Obama blowout by recent political campaigns.

28. I try not to get to into polling ...
At this time in 1984, Walter Mondale was leading Ronald Reagan by about 15-points. Mondale got THIRTEEN lousy electoral votes in November (to Reagan's 525). He won ONE state. A LOT can change in five months.

I'll believe it when November rolls around.
