Poll: Country's mood at historic low

WASHINGTON (CNN) -- A new poll out Thursday indicates that fewer than a quarter of Americans think things are going well in the country. The CNN/Opinion Research Corp. Poll showed that 24 percent have a positive outlook for the country, while 76 percent say things are on the wrong track.

It is the lowest number on record since 1980 and the third time in four decades that the number has dropped so low.

Recent CNN/Opinion Research Corp. polling has shown a steady drop in the country's mood. In April 2007, 51 percent said things in the country were going badly. A year later, 70 percent reiterated that position.

The poll questioned 1,041 adult Americans by telephone July 27-29, 2008. The margin of error was plus or minus 3 percentage points. "Only three events -- Watergate, the Iran hostage crisis, and the economic downturn of 1992 -- have driven below 30 percent the number who think things are going well," CNN's polling director Keating Holland said. The mood of the country has been assessed since 1974.

Unpopular war.

Bad economy. Worst unemployment in 5 years. Bridges are collapsing.

Homeowner default rates skyrocketing. Home prices can't find a bottom.

...and Banks and Investment companies are failing and gettng bailed out by the Fed.

Everything is hunky dory.

4. Interesting that the mood is so low despite the best efforts of the McCainstream
Media, who are trying to keep the truth from people. In the previous crises, Watergate and the late Carter years, the press was at least reporting on how bad things were.

We'll burn the whole country to the ground. Then we'll revoke the democrats political charter. :sarcasm:

It's time to send everyone in Washington back to the real world. They have lost all touch with their constituents and reality. They have no idea what's going on in America. They've been fighting for the hearts and minds of Iraqi's for so long. They no longer know what's in our hearts and on our minds. Apperntly they don't to find out either.

7. If you aren't a bitter, angry American then you aren't paying attention
We are living in a world full of lies, deception, fraud, misleading and flat out false statements by the mega profit machines but as long as they give to the politicians and make huge profits it's okay to destroy the environment, our health, our homes. It's amazing how the federal and state agencies work. They pass you on to the next bureaucracy who passes you on to the next and so on and so forth, where you end up being told the agency you need was the very first one you started with. It's called the Virginia spin. Tennessee plays the same fiddle. www.caringbridge.org/visit/timmullins

10. 76% Americans = reality-based. Of the 24%, 16% are war-profiteers
making billions off the destruction of America's treasures; the remaining 8% are freepingly ignorant idiots including those who think the earth is flat, we've found "wmd" in Iraq, and Saddam Hussein was involved in the 911 attacks.

The 16% will never change as long as they're making billions; the 8% are doomed to forever be the stupidest MFers on the planet.

12. not low enough do anything about the situation though
Edited on Fri Aug-01-08 05:11 PM by TOJ
as long as Fox News blames someone else for the problem, and Nashville Star comes on every week, nothing will be done.

We're becoming like the regular citizens in the old USSR. Our end will probably be like that. I guess it's better than the way the 3rd Reich ended.
