3 GIs killed in non-combat incidents in Iraq
Source: NASDAQ News

(RTTNews) - Three American troops were killed and three others injured in non-combat incidents in Iraq Saturday, the U.S. military said Monday.

The military did not elaborate on the death of a soldier near a U.S. military base in the restive eastern province of Diyala.

Another soldier was killed in a vehicle accident in the southwest of Baghdad over the weekend.

A third soldier succumbed to his injuries in an accident in northern Baghdad, the military said in a statement.

With this, the number of U.S. troops killed in Iraq this year rose to 222, and the total number since the beginning of the war in 2003 to 4,130.

2. The surge is working.
Combat injuries down, freak accidents up. What a coinky-dink.

8. My thoughts exactly
But it takes Iraq out of the election campaign, for the most part. I think Iraq will heat up again after November.

4. number of U.S. troops killed in Iraq = 4,130 ???
That number is a crock of shit. I'd bet it is likely 3, 4, 5 times that number. At the beginning of Bush's invasion we heard how the numbers are doctored. Do not count vehicle accidents, or non-combat deaths, or deaths upon departure from Iraq. Get them on a plane to Germany quick so they can die enroute, in Germany, or back in the states.

Our present government cannot be trusted to give us the real numbers. We'll find out in the years to come.

5. it's amazing how many soldiers die in "accidents"
in Iraq.

My partner says that in four years on a major aircraft carrier, they lost five people due to "accidents" - three on active flight deck and two newbie pilots on touch-n-go training.

I would think that active flight deck is a little more high risk than barracks/billets.

6. it's amazing how many soldiers die in accidents in USA, too.
Many of them are car accidents.

According to the Navy, there are over 100 different ways to die on an active flight deck of a carrier.

Lots of stories going around about the bad wiring in the Iraq bases leading to electrocutions.
