Nashville Business Journal

NBC News veteran Tom Brokaw will be the moderator of the 2008 Town Hall Presidential Debate at Nashville's Belmont University on Oct. 7.

The town hall format differs from the traditional debate format because invited participants question the candidates.

For the first time in the history of general election debates, the moderator can choose to use questions submitted via the Internet.

The Gallup Organization will choose the audience participants in the town hall meeting from undecided voters from Middle Tennessee.

Participants will pose the questions, and Brokaw will facilitate the discussion between the audience and the candidates.

Brokaw has interviewed every president since Lyndon Baines Johnson and has covered every presidential election since 1968.

8. How about Olberman or Maddow?
Would their corp creds be ignored long enough to entertain their role in the job?

Brokejaw: "Lovely to see you, Senator McCain."

McCain: "Glad to be here, old buddy."

Brokejaw: "That's a marvelous suit you have on, Mr. President."

McCain: "Thanks, Tom."

Brokejaw: "And, may I say you cut quite a dashing figure!"

McCain: "Heh. Thanks again, Tom."

Obama: "Are those questions??"

Brokejaw: "Please don't interrupt, Mr. whatever your name is - something Arabic, wasn't it?"

Obama: "Barack. Barack Obama."

Brokejaw: "I thought your name was Hussein or Bin Laden or something. Since you insist on
interrupting the flow of the proceedings, are you a terrorist, or what?"

Obama: "Uh, what? I..."

Brokejaw: "and where's your flag pin? Why do you hate the troops?"

Obama: "Tom, hold on a sec. I don't see..."

Brokejaw: "Your wife hate's 'em too, right? And you're both radical, bitter Muslims who
refuse to say the pledge of allegiance unless you're clutching a volume of the Kabbalah!"

Obama: "Oh, for Pete's sake!"

Brokejaw: "Ah HA! Gotcha!"

7. That was great! Got one for a Keith Olberman role?
Considering Brokaw is hated by the right and considered a liberal, what would a real
liberal posit?

10. Thanks! Maybe I'll give your suggestion a whirl this evening.
I may have overstepped my bounds by doing the Brokaw lampoon at work...
