MIAMI - A man is being held in Florida by federal authorities on charges of threatening to assassinate Democratic presidential candidate Barack Obama.

Raymond Hunter Geisel was ordered held without bail Thursday at a brief court hearing.

The Secret Service says Geisel made the threat during a training class for bail bondsmen in Miami in late July. Another tipster said Geisel also threatened President Bush.

A search of Geisel's SUV and hotel room uncovered a loaded handgun, knives, dozens of rounds of ammunition, body armor and a machete. The SUV was wired with emergency lights.

2. Is it just me or does anyone suspect that "another tipster" was only trying to "balance out"?
I suspect the psycho never actually threatened any Republican.

3. Do you suppose he could have simply said things that sound like
threats, but are just part of his normal vocabulary? I'm not trying to make lite of this, and he well may be a serious threat, but I have to tell ya, MANY MANY TIMES I've been talking about somebody who aggrivates me, and I say "I'd kill 'em!" Sometimes it's even in a light hearted conversation wiwth friends or co-workers and I'd say "if you do that I'll kill ya!" I guarantee you, I was NEVER threatening anyone but someone COULD take it as such!

I guess all I'm saying is that I could see the feds saying the SAME THI about ME, and I swear, I had to call someone to get a mouse out of my kitchen! My husband said why didn't you just smack it with a skillet or something? I couldn't do that to any living thing!

Rough work.

Glad they got the guy, but I'm betting that he was full of bluster and won't run his mouth as much any more.

11. It's as I've said for years about the "al Qaida 'chatter'" that's always being "intercepted". . .
I fear blabbermouths far less than I do determined people. The fellow in the corner of the bar, nursing a beer and a grudge, quietly seething, poses -- in my experience -- a much greater threat than the fool blathering idiotically about all the damage they intend to do. Both can do harm, no doubt -- but quiet, focused anger seems capable of more devastation, quicker and with more precision, than undisciplined, erratic lashing out.

Make no mistake -- I'm glad someone intercepted this fool, and is taking time to assess his potentials, but like you, I feel there's a greater chance he's was just blowing steam rather than plotting chaos. And I believe most criminal studies will bear this out.

wonder if this is the type of guy that would defend guns saying that knives and axes and cars also kill people. He is driving an suv. I suspect he's the type a guy that would say that.
