Officer charged in death of Tasered man
Source: CNN

(CNN) -- A Louisiana grand jury indicted a former police officer on a manslaughter charge in the death of a man who was Tasered nine times while handcuffed, prosecutors said Wednesday.

Scott Nugent also was charged with felony criminal malfeasance in connection with the January death of Baron "Scooter" Pikes.

Pikes, a 21-year-old sawmill worker, tried to run from Winnfield police, who wanted to arrest him on a warrant charging him with cocaine possession.

A coroner's report found that Pikes was handcuffed and on the ground when first stunned with a Taser and might have been dead before the last two 50,000-volt shocks were delivered.

freed in a daring raid by Libreal Special Ops .....

"We are so grateful to be finally free"

"Its so nice to see real SUNSHINE after years of darkness"

"We escaped a couple of times during the Carter/Clinton years but got recaptured by those slimey Pubs..."

"We had to scrub Drool Cups all the time...Them Pubs...all they do is Drool

while they find ways to RULE...."

3. Hopefully, this will raise awareness that Tasers are "less-lethal tools", not "non-lethal tools"
I hate that it had to come to this. I think the Taser (and variants thereof) is a great less-lethal solution in a lot of situations.

...but it's not a toy, and it's proven to NOT be "non-lethal".

Shitty way for it to happen, but maybe this will help law enforcement to craft responsible Taser policies.

6. If some judge doesn't throw the charges out first.
I've got zero hopes for any cop in this country being held to task for anything done to a black man.

11. Was born in La, so I know that. Not sure why it's relevant, though.
Louisiana's Roman Law or the other 49's English Law, cops still don't get held responsible.

13. Should be a Murder charge.
The article shows that this officer had killed someone else the same way before this last incident. Looks plain to me that this officer knows how to use this nonlethal device as a lethal weapon and conveniently use its status as a nonlethal device to get away with being judge, jury and executioner on the street.
