Hannity and Colmes split up
Source: Politico

Fox News announced that after 12 years, Alan Colmes will be leaving the top-rated "Hannity & Colmes" at the end of the year.

“I approached Bill Shine (FNC’s Senior Vice President of Programming) earlier this year about wanting to move on after 12 years to develop new and challenging ways to contribute to the growth of the network," Colmes said in a statement. "Although it’s bittersweet to leave one of the longest marriages on cable news, I’m proud that both Sean (Hannity) and I remained unharmed after sitting side by side, night after night for so many years.”

Sean Hannity said Colmes was "a remarkable co-host," "great friend," and "skillful debate partner.”

Colmes will remain a Fox commentator, and continue hosting "The Alan Colmes Show" on Fox News Radio. Also, he's developing a weekend show.

Well there's one of the two "liberals" Rupert Murdoch named as being on his station a few years back gone... Greta Van Sustern, you're next!

Maybe they'll call Dick Morris a liberal and marry him off to Hannity?

They must pay him a small fortune to sit there day after day and be a doormat for the ignoramus Hannity.

But I don't see how much of a price tag they can put on his self respect. He must've got sick of looking in the mirror every morning and pondering what an invertebrate he'd become.

43. He gets his revenge on his radio show.
If you've heard it, you'd see he's actually quite good at handling rw nuts. And he gets more than his share because he's on Fox Radio. I've had the opposite experience with him than most people here. I never see his show on television and would never bother with it, considering the doofus he had to work with. But I listen to his radio show frequently and, surprisingly (because of his TV reputation), he is fully in charge and his ability to formulate an argument and present his viewpoint is quite respectable. I think you're correct about him getting paid to sit there and let hannity be the dumbfuck he is without too much challenge because Colmes could run circles around him if given free reign. I hope this move frees up his talent and he comes into his own on television.

19. Greta Van Sustern is a liberal?
I listened to Colmes's radio show a couple of times when I had no TV and only one progressive radio station to listen to (not Fox-- the show is syndicated, apparently). That show had the highest ratio of drunken callers of any I've ever heard. No one who was sober called in-- or at least, no one who was sober got past the screeners.

21. Who on earth would have KNOWN? Holy smokes.
The Alan Colmes show sounded exactly as you describe it the few minutes I've heard it stretched over a couple of years. It appears they all call him drunk, as you point out, or their are simply insane, to discharge shots at liberals while he simply takes their calls. You'd think it would embarrass the guy.

25. That's one of the most entertaining things about it
The radio show is a hoot because of all the insane drunken wingnuts that call in. Keep in mind that Colmes is on quite a few right-wing stations, and that helps build up the nutty caller queue. Lionel's show was like that before he joined Air America. And it's one thing that's missing from AAR - crazy wingnut callers.

The insane wingnuts make for great radio. Colmes, ehhh... let's just say he's slightly better on radio than on TV.

56. Greta not only is not a liberal,
her show running up to the election was nothing but an anti-Obama hatefest. Election Eve (my husband can't resist switching over to Fox to "see what they're up to") she ran a loop of Reverand Wright her entire show. She also had an embarrassing "Late Breaking News" drama queen moment which consisted of...some guy who knew a guy who said one of the Obama team was critical of Obama for not leaving the church sooner." Oh, the horror.
Greta's show is a tabloid nightmare of purple journalism.
She's become a disgrace.

23. Why does Alan Colmes get such little respect ? His radio show is great- he's very good at providing
lots of rope for the idiots to hang themselves. Which they do with great regularity.

Don't have cable or TV and never will so can't say how he behaved there.

33. This is an odd statement..
"Sean( Hannity) and I remained unharmed after sitting side by side, night after night for so many years." Well, I don't think Hannity was harmed, but it amazes me that someone can have his spine pulled out of his ass, and then be publicly humiliated for twelve years and not be harmed. Well, I guess there are stranger things. Or maybe it depends on what one means by harmed.

He's developing a weekend show - what is it? A kid' show where they use him as a pinata?
