Diamond thieves pull off 100-million-dollar Paris heist

PARIS (AFP) — Armed robbers pulled off one of the world's biggest jewelery heists at a famed Paris store, making off with 80 million euros (102 million dollars) in diamonds and valuables, investigators said Friday.

A gang of four thieves -- two of them disguised as women -- on Thursday stole nearly all the jewels on display at the Harry Winston boutique just off the Champs-Elysees avenue, which attracts a wealthy international clientele.

The heist was well-planned, a source from the investigating team told AFP. The men knew the names of some of the shop's employees and the location of some hidden storage cases for jewelery.

So, how were these goons planning on moving the diamonds? Sell them on eBay? Didn't they bother to watch Reservoir Dogs?

12. re-cut stones may lose considerable weight, and the art of the jewelry is lost when the metals melt
i am sure you are correct but it makes me ill to think of stones beautifully cut to preserve size and brilliance being chopped down just to enrich a crew of shitheads

i hope they catch them before too many stones are mutilated

13. Hint: this was an inside job.
The fact that they knew employees' names, and were able to find hidden storage cases of jewelry.

Jewelry stores are not stupid. They have security systems that are probably the best around. They probably have cameras aimed at the goods. Wow, they walked off with $100 million?

This was undoubtedly an inside job.
Now the police need to snag all the employees, and they'll find their men.:smoke:

15. Conspiracy Theory Tinfoil. There are no "inside jobs".
Oh wait a minute. Maybe.

There are no conspiracies in America, but only in other countries.
