Capitol Visitor Center evacuated

WASHINGTON (CNN) — The Capitol Visitor Center was evacuated Friday as fire trucks and other emergency vehicles came to the scene.

A CNN producer said he could smell smoke but had not seen any, and that there were at least 12 fire trucks.

The visitor center, which just opened last week, is under ground on the east side of the Capitol.

The Capitol itself was not evacuated.
