Sources: Emanuel not target of Illinois probe
Source: AP

WASHINGTON (AP) — People who have been briefed on the Illinois governor corruption investigation say Barack Obama chief of staff Rahm Emanuel is not a target of the probe.

Emanuel, a Chicago congressman who would have been a likely contact between the Obama transition office and Gov. Rod Blagojevich, has been a focus of media attention since Obama said Thursday he has asked for an internal review of contacts between his staff and Blagojevich.

2. Well, it will give the CNN/MSNBC/FOX gossip mongers
a few more hours of "fun" before they start to realize that their 401Ks are not getting any fatter, and that people have already turned the channel, and have decided not to pay them no mind.

Question of the last 72 hours on all of these scandal driven "news" programs: Will This Scandal hurt Barack Obama? :eyes:

Anybody who was an Iraq Occupation supporter was and is no Democrat. Period. End of story.

Also, I'm not sure if you live in Illinois or not, but if you did, you would know for sure that this guy is corrupt as hell, beyond being a Republicrat.

11. I know nothing about whether he's corrupt or not. I do know I wouldn't mind seeing the back of him.
I've despised that DLC asshole for many, many years.

I wish no ill on Obama, but most of his appointments so far make me grit my teeth.

and about time. Gee...speaking about "about time", isn't this just about Friday news-dump time...the time when they release it when they want the story to disappear?

5. Briefed by whom?
The FBI doesn't "brief" people on their investigations and they do not confirm or deny any details of an investigation including who they may or may not be investigating. Seems like the Democrats have their own spinmeisters. He is not a subject of the investigation when the FBI says he is not a subject of the investigation. And the FBI hasn't said that.

13. seems like the FBI is leaking quite a bit.....
how else would we know who Senator #5 is? I don't understand why they don't leak the whole thing. Why so selective?

Emanuel not a target of investigation
By NIA-MALIKA HENDERSON | 12/12/08 7:20 PM EST

Incoming White House chief of staff Rahm Emanuel is not a target of the federal corruption probe into Illinois Gov. Rod Blagojevich, a source who has been briefed on the investigation said.

Emanuel has been silent on whether he had any contacts with Blagojevich, who is accused by federal authorities of trying to sell President-elect Barack Obama’s former U.S. Senate seat. The Chicago native would have been a possible conduit between Obama’s transition team and Blagojevich.

But if there was any question that the Blagojevich scandal is becoming a distraction for Obama’s staff, look no further than Emanuel’s front door. The normally talkative Emanuel reportedly ducked out of his house Friday, avoiding questions from the media on his way to the transition offices, according to an ABC report.

Emanuel’s office has declined to say whether he is the “president-elect adviser” named in the 76-page criminal complaint against Blagojevich, or whether he has been interviewed by the FBI. The complaint cites the “adviser” several times – but does not state explicitly that the Illinois governor ever spoke directly to the unidentified Obama aide.

14. rahmbone....
....filled Blagos' old house seat....they may not be best of buds, but I'm sure they've had a few spoken words....

"...Emanuel is not a target of the probe."....yet

....Obama had better be careful, thorough and complete when he issues a statement regarding staff contact with Blago....I can already hear repugs screaming, 'cover-up' if something additional comes to light....

....hell, I can hear me screaming 'cover-up'....
