Delaney Bramlett

LOS ANGELES (AP) - Delaney Bramlett, the singer-songwriter-producer who penned classic rock songs such as "Let it Rain" and worked with musicians George Harrison and Eric Clapton, died Saturday. He was 69.

Bramlett died shortly before 5 a.m. at UCLA Ronald Reagan Medical Center in Los Angeles as a result of complications from gall-bladder surgery, his wife Susan Lanier-Bramlett said. Born in Mississippi, Bramlett enjoyed a career in the music business that spanned 50 years.

He is perhaps best known for standards such as "Superstar," co-written with Leon Russell, which was recorded by Usher, Luther Vandross, Bette Midler, The Carpenters and most recently, Sonic Youth, in a version featured on the Grammy-nominated soundtrack of the movie "Juno."

He co-wrote "Let it Rain" with British guitarist Clapton, who also recorded it, and "Never Ending Song of Love," which was recorded by more than 100 artists including Ray Charles, George Jones, Tammy Wynette, Patty Loveless and Dwight Yoakam.

3. I'm disgusted every time I walk by the Ronald Reagan Medical Center
When I think what that asshole did to people with AIDS, to furthering the insurance crisis, etc., it sickens me.

At any rate, RIP Mr Bramlett. I love the song Superstar.

4. Rock ON, Delaney!
If Duane Allman was your best friend and George Harrison gave you his Rosewood Telecaster in 1968, you musta been Somebody. May you rest in Glory forever!

9. We are getting older...
What a cruel joke played on us by God. My life, and of course I speak for everyone in my generation, seems like a bad movie when I reflect back over it. In the 60's and early 70's we had so much we wanted to accomplish. There was an energy that you can see in the old reels made back then. We were slowly beaten down though. We conformed but we were secret Bozos on this bus. Bramlett was always on the periphery but made good music. Squeeze the weeze.

15. Speak for yourself.
As a result of our generation:

No more draft.
As a female, I can apply for my own credit.
I can get a safe, legal abortion (if I were of child-bearing years).
Minorities don't have to sit at the back of the bus.
Most jobs are open to anyone who wants to apply for them.
No more Jim Crow laws.
Domestic violence is now a punishable crime.

And those are just off the top of my head.

"I speak for everyone in my generation." No you don't. If you want to park your wheelchair and watch the world go by, that's up to you, mate. The rest of us will continue being involved and do what we've always done.

13. RIP, you will be missed.
weird thing is, I just watched Vanishing Point this past week. There is a great scene where all these ultra talented 60's musicians are playing a revival concert out in the desert. with Delaney and Bonnie, must see if you are a fan.

16. Any friend of Eric Clapton was a friend of mine.

I loved playing Let It Rain along with Eric. And Bonnie (who married Delaney a week after meeting him) had a great voice--great enough to become the first white Ikette. They had a daughter, I believe, who dated Bon Jovi guitarist Richie Sambora.

21. My wife and I were just talking about Delaney and Bonnie on Friday night
Hadn't thought about them in years. Looked them up on Wiki just a few hours before his death.

My wife told me about it this morning.

Lots of great music and musicians connected to D&B Bramlett.

RIP Delaney.
