Many dead in Pakistan bomb blast
Source: BBC

At least 30 people have died in north-western Pakistan in a car bomb attack at a school being used as a polling station, police say.

The bomb went off during a by-election in the district of Buner, on the edge of the restive Swat valley.

The bomb destroyed the school, trapping people under the rubble. Two police were among the dead and 15 hurt.

A Taleban spokesman told the BBC they carried out the attack in retaliation for an attack on their fighters.

Six militants were shot dead a few months ago when the local residents turned against the Taleban, in what correspondents say was one of the first incidents of villagers turning against the Taleban in the region.

1. This proves the Taliban are not for the people
The people in this region prize education--schools are few and far between, and they honor those who help build them. The Taliban terrorize not only Westerners, but the people they say they wish to "defend". They are nothing but thugs.

2. Thugs are people, too.
Nasty, vicious, violent people, but they were all adorable babies once. Unfortunately, like the Palestinians, the Taliban have chosen violence as the way to achieve their goals. We're crying for the Palestinians today. A while ago, I recall a thread on the horrors done to captured Taliban by their former victims. The OP was enraged at the cruel way they were killed. Eventually, we will hear of other cruel Taliban deaths. Because people do get mad and retaliate. And retaliation can be..."disproportionate."

9. Same race, snooks.
How interesting that you don't know that.

I'm sure there are equality-loving, peaceful, adorable Taliban. I notice you don't argue for them. How is it believable that ALL Taliban are evil but not those fluffy Palestinians?

You really can't call me a racist without taking a good hard look at your own judgments. Well, you can and do, but the hypocrisy is smelly.

7. "have chosen violence as the way to achieve their goals"
The same thing can be said of the Israelis in power. The fact that Rabin was assassinated by an Israeli and that no government since his have really been serious about peace is what makes me feel this is so. However, please note that I don't condone violence by the Palestinians or Taliban. Nor do I believe that every member of these groups are violent--but sadly the number of those working for peace is small, and their efforts towards peace are not encouraged by those of their number who are in power.

10. Wow, it's a good thing we Americans never chose violence to achieve our goals.
Oh, wait a minute! So I guess we can expect to get bombed to death ourselves, because we deserve it.

5. This is Pakistan's civil war fall out
Edited on Sun Dec-28-08 05:38 PM by ohio2007
They created the Taliban and now they are being schooled for it.

Taliban said they are not going to lay down the law for another couple of weeks so be ready for a 'declaration' of some type from those 7th century cave dwellars about the time of BHO's big swearing in day.
so
Those folks in the Swat valley better start getting use to the new boss and the prayer mats they rode in on. We should not dabble in their customs and traditions....
We must observe the prime directive and all that.
:sarcasm:
