Leahy: Some in GOP back prosecutions
By ANDY BARR | 3/5/09 11:23 AM EST

Patrick Leahy says there is support for prosecuting members of the Bush White House.

Senate Judiciary Committee Chairman Patrick Leahy (D-Vt.) said Wednesday night that some of his Republican colleagues have voiced support for prosecuting members of the Bush White House.

“Interestingly enough, some of the Republicans, in their arguments this morning, were saying, maybe prosecution is the only way you're going to really find out. Something has been done wrong and you should have prosecution,” Leahy said during an interview on MSNBC’s “Rachel Maddow Show.”

Leahy said his reaction to the call for prosecutions was: “Be careful what you wish for. That may be what you get.”

Rather than prosecuting Bush officials, the Democrat has proposed the creation of a “truth commission” to investigate alleged wrongdoings in the waging of the war on terror. Leahy’s proposed commission would have subpoena power, but would not press criminal charges against former White House officials.

2. As KO and Rachel kept saying along with Leahy, 'be careful what you wish for.'
;-)

Actually, I hope that the GOPers ARE NOT careful what they wish for -- after all, if there is a "bipartisan" call from Congress for Justice Department consideration of prosecutions, wouldn't Obama and Holder need to heed such bipartisan advice?
