Obama pledges $438 million more for Katrina reconstruction

NEW ORLEANS, Louisiana (CNN) — The Obama administration announced Thursday that it would commit another $438 million toward resettling people uprooted by Hurricane Katrina in 2005, with officials pledging to speed up aid to those who still need permanent housing.

The announcement came as two Cabinet officials, Housing Secretary Shaun Donovan and Homeland Security Secretary Janet Napolitano toured parts of the New Orleans area.

“What we have seen today makes us disturbed, angry even, to see some of the families living the way they have,” Donovan said. “And we pledge to your our partnership to a new beginning here in New Orleans and across the Gulf.”

2. I wonder if he'll refuse the money.
Had he asked for more assistance for people living in substandard conditions? Just curious.

5. I don't know but I've
read that the gop plan for New Orleans is to keep out the Poor People who lived there before Katrina which makes sense knowing them too well.

I'm thinking money like this from the Feds helps people who really need it.

4. The fact that much of the area still looks
like a war zone is a national disgrace. I hope they get the money soon and use it wisely. The people of New Orleans deserve a break.
