Biden’s mother at HUP after a fall

The mother of Vice President Biden, Catherine Eugenia "Jean" Biden, is at the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania tonight after a fall at her home in Delaware.

The vice president's office did not provide details. Hospital officials declined to describe her condition.

"She is currently receiving treatment and is in good spirits," said Elizabeth Alexander, a spokeswoman for the vice president, in a statement.

Joe Biden's mom hospitalized

WASHINGTON, Mar 15, 2009 (UPI via COMTEX) -- U.S. Vice President Joe Biden's mother has been hospitalized after a fall at her home in Delaware, Biden's office announced Sunday.

Biden spokeswoman Elizabeth Alexander made the announcement in a prepared statement.

"The Vice President's mother, Catherine Eugenia 'Jean' Biden, has been admitted to the University of Pennsylvania hospital today after a fall at her residence in Delaware," Alexander said. "She is currently receiving treatment and is in good spirits."

Biden devoted a section of his acceptance speech at the Democratic National Convention in Denver to his mother, who is 91. He said she taught her children "that you're defined by your sense of honor and you're redeemed by your loyalty."
