Justice Ginsburg Says She Will Have Chemotherapy
Source: Associated Press

(03-17) 07:15 PDT WASHINGTON (AP) --

Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg says she will begin chemotherapy later this month, following her surgery in February for pancreatic cancer.

The 76-year-old Ginsburg says she does not expect to miss any court sessions because of the treatment, which she is calling precautionary.

Last month, doctors removed a small cancerous growth from Ginsburg's pancreas. Tests showed that the cancer had not spread beyond the pancreas.

Ginsburg says the operation was "a complete, successful, surgical removal" of the cancer. She says she will require only routine exams once she has finished with the chemotherapy.

3. She needs to step aside,

and let President Obama nominate a woman to take her place. My reasoning is the nomination process takes several months and going through chemotherapy will diminish her thoughtful consideration of cases she is judging.

4. Not necessary for her to "step aside"
I never stopped working during my chemotherapy for breast cancer 4 years ago. I took a sick day the day of chemo and the day after, and that was it for 8 treatments. It didn't diminish my mental capacity in any way. -- Wanet

5. It depends on the type of chemotherapy that a person is receiving.
I know with my treatment I did experience "chemo brain".

And congratulations on your recovery! :hi:

6. total bullshit
Have you ever even talked to someone going through chemotherapy? Most times they get through that process BETTER when they have things to focus on - like a career.

But hey, let's force a vibrant older woman into retirement because *some* idiot somewhere automatically equates older with *frail and demented*.

What sexist and ageist crap can we expect next? :sarcasm:
