1. AIG the company or AIG employees at the company
plus AIG is based in CT so it makes sense that it would donate to Dodd and Larson.

23. Waiting for the info on how the OFFICERS of the company donated.
I am quite sure that the secretaries and other staff did not receive 'retention' bonuses.

3. Well
It does make you wonder why Chris Dodd supposedly inserted a provision protecting employee bonuses into bailout language.... seeing how they gave him a sizable chunk of money.

7. ask for figures from the last 4 years - you'll see the truth
once McCain was already ready to lose, no one would put money on that bet - but check out the Bush-Cheney years to see the real picture

6. I see this as nothing more than "playing the odds"!
So what's the issue here? AIG backs the candidates they feel are going to win accordingly. Do you think they are going to donate MORE to rudy and mcAncient...and mitt? Jesus, give me a break. This is simple "playing the odds". You back the winner.

Why such companies are allowed to back ANYONE is beyond me....but that's all in the game. Sure, the repugs will jump on this...but how stupid do you have to be to swallow this hook??

14. Where do you see that it was the employees donations?
I checked both links and only see the corporation listed. Employee donations would be in their personal names, not in the name of the corporation. Where are you finding it stated that the funds donated by AIG came from the employees?

19. Opensecrets aggregates people by employer
When you donate, you fill in info including employer. Opensecrets on Frediie and Fannie broke the contributions down by Pac and individual - and they should do that here.

20. Who also just happened to be the Democratic nominee for President
Edited on Thu Mar-19-09 06:33 PM by karynnj
If you look at the all list, you will see that any one who was a top candidate for the nomination - Obama, McCain and Clinton in 2008 and Kerry and Bush in 2004 will be there. There are many people who give just too the Presidential campaign. In Obama's case, it was also for both the primary and general election.

PS his opponent in the primaries was not that far from having been a freshman and she also had NO important committee position.

28. Which one ran a general election?
The fact of the matter is that Obama and Clinton received the money from individuals who worked for the company - and, you might remember that Obama was the one that got more money on the internet. The other thing is that - just as with Kerry in 2004, Obama got a lot of money before the convention from people who earlier supported HRC, because it was clear that he was the nominee.

stimulus.

I wish I could find an investment like that.

27. My sentiments exactly. Fight corporatism at every level and in every corner of government.
Woodrow Wilson: "We have come to be one of the worst ruled, one of the most completely controlled and dominated Governments in the world — no longer a Government of free opinion, no longer a Government by conviction and vote of the majority, but a Government by the opinion and duress of small groups of dominant men."

IMO what we have today is not these United States but a single Corporate State.

33. Um, this is a Repub thing. We are in this mess mostly because of Dummya, Reagan and Pub
Congresses. That's trillions into a black hole. This is millions and, as I already posted, Paulson insisted on no conditions for the TARP. But let's crucify Obama and Dodd because they were concerned about lawsuits over vinding contracts.

I'm outraged by people who keep misusing the word "outraged."

bailout. That might result in the post level's dropping too dramatically.
