Photo of Charles Manson is released by prison officials
Source: LAT

California corrections officials released a photograph taken Wednesday of aging convicted mass murderer Charles Manson, replete with receding hairline, fading forehead swastika carving and a thick, heavily graying beard.

The photograph of the 74-year-old cult leader was taken at Corcoran State Prison, where he is serving a life sentence, and is part of periodic updates of inmate images by prison officials, said Terry Thornton, a spokeswoman for the California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation.

(snip)

Manson has made 11 failed bids for parole since 1978, the last in 2007, when he was ordered to continue serving life sentences. Manson's next parole hearing is scheduled for 2012.

Oddly, that give me a glimmer of hope for people afflicted with Republicon Homelanderism Syndrome.

8. Charles Manson almost certainly killed Shorty Shea personally
He likely murdered a number of others at the Spahn Ranch and in Death valley. That he didn't directly kill any of the Tate-Labianca victims doesn't mean he didn't kill anybody. Given his history, it's also quite likely that Manson killed people during his out-time in the 50's and early 60's. You don't wake up one morning and start blasting people.

10. oh for the love of reason
you're actually saying that Laura Bush is worse than Manson? Please. And one of my son's friends was driving a car that overturned and killed 2 of my nephews and two other kids. They were all drunk. The driver survived. He's hardly on the same level as Charlie Manson. Neither is Laura Bush.

dang, I hate stupid.

11. no comparison ...
Mr. Douglas' death was an accident - no less, no more.

Mr. Manson is a psychotic who in cold-blood planned the murders of 6 people. He was a criminal even before he planned & executed these murders

How can you even compare them? your comment was entirely unwarranted and in bad taste

14. Listen to Manson's speaking style/similar to bush IMO
I noticed it when I caught a few seconds of some old Manson interview...I wasn't looking at the TV and I thought it was W talking, imagine my surprise when I rounded the corner to see Manson on my screen.

Maybe I need a hearing aid, but I find their accents and speech patterns to be similar.

21. Worst Beach Boys song EVER.
Never Learn Not To Love (by Charles Manson, from "20/20")

Cease to resist, come on say you love me
Give up your world, come on and be with me
I'm your kind, I'm your kind, and I see

Come on come on, ooo I love you pretty girl
My life is yours, and you can have my world
I'm your kind, I'm your kind, and I see

Never had a lesson I ever learned
I know I could never learn not to love you
Come in now closer
Come in closer closer closer ahhhh

Submission is a gift given to another
Love and understanding is for one another
I'm your kind, I'm your kind, and I see

Never had a lesson I ever learned
I know I could never learn not to love you
Come in now closer
Come in closer come in closer ahhhh

Ahhh-ahhh-ahhh-ahhh-ahhhhhh
Ahhh-ahhh-ahhh-ahhh-ahhhhhh

53. I actually think that song's pretty good
I've heard a few of Manson's recordings of his own songs, too, and they're really not bad if you can get past the fact of who's singing them...

Worst Beach Boys song would have to be something from one of their overproduced nostalgia-fest albums from the eighties, IMHO.

has faded--if I encountered this guy on the street, there is little about his face that would scare the crap out of me, unlike images of the insane freak who headed a cult of murderers.

It appears, perhaps incorrectly, that spending his life in prison is good for all of us.
