Investigative findings that adult authorities at South Oak Cliff High School staged “cage fights” between students in a hidden locker room are staggering. They’re sickening.

They make the troubled school’s grade-fixing scandals seem, by comparison, like misdemeanors. That was just fraud; this borders on criminal child abuse.

Security personnel at the high school, district records show, had students settle their differences with bare-knuckled fistfights in a wire-mesh equipment cage. It’s hard to believe.

But much of the reaction already circulating among SOC’s most stalwart defenders is disconcertingly familiar. It goes something along these lines:

1. It didn’t happen.

2. If it did happen, it was a long time ago, and the people responsible are long gone.

3. Some of the people responsible may still be around, but you wouldn’t be making such a big deal about it if the school in question were in Southlake (or Highland Park or McKinney or any other comparatively wealthy, predominantly white area). ....

Don't get me wrong. Love Ohio. A good portion of my family is in Westerville. Texas just isn't as bad as its made out to be. Especially Austin and Dallas.
