France wants more from SocGen, may help on jobs

PARIS, March 22 (Reuters) - France stepped up on Sunday its criticism of Societe Generale (SOGN.PA) bosses for awarding themselves stock options and, in a move aimed at placating unions, said it might provide fresh funds to help young people find jobs.

Economy Minister Christine Lagarde also said the government was working on proposals to save niche car maker Heuliez, which has run into difficulty, putting at risk 1,000 jobs.

More than 3 million people took part in protests last Thursday over the government's handling of the economic crisis. Many of them are angry that the state has made available billions of loans for big banks but done little to help consumers.

That anger intensified after SocGen said last week it had decided to award 150,000 stock options to Chief Executive Frederic Oudea and 70,000 to Chairman Daniel Bouton.
